Likely Football Allstars 2019...

Replying To royaldunne:  "Well firstly all players will be a year older (we had one of the youngest panels in 19)
Secondly one of our main drawbacks this year was gk position that will be rectified next with the introduction of a fantastic young keeper by the name of Andrew beakley , we will also have the returning Lenihane (who took a year off to travel) (top forward in county for past few years) and a huge loss this year, also paddy kennely who took a year off too. The possible returning from America of Ronan jones (although this is not certain). Plenty of scope for improvement, our likely only retiree will be micky burke (a fantastic servant) who was only brought on with 5 mins to go v Kerry in championship as a swan song.
There is plenty I mean plenty to be optimistic about. There is no chance imo of Meath not staying up in division one, think we are better than both Monaghan and Galway, and the games v Tyrone and donegal could go either way. Also wouldn't rule us out v mayo. Dublin and Kerry are ahead of us and will be next year too. But yeah we are very much a coming team."
I have good time for Meath football and agree they have come on a lot over the last few seasons but I don't think they have the quality forwards required to challenge the top teams as things stand. I do like the look of Shane Walsh and playing in D1 will help him next year so maybe he will improve things the older he gets. Goalkeeper is a huge problem and maybe this young Beakley lad is the answer but he's going to need a year or two before he feels comfortable playing at that level. Meath's defence is as good as what's around and overall I think they are a very solid side and deserve to be in D1. Relegation is hard to predict in D1 next year because I think for once we actually have the best 8 teams in the division. Any 2 of Meath, Donegal, Monaghan, Mayo, Galway and Tyrone could go down. Kerry and Dublin are the only two I'd be sure won't.

The problem for Meath trying to close the gap on the likes of Tyrone, Kerry, Donegal and Mayo (nevermind Dublin) is that these teams will hope to improve next year too. I'd throw Galway into this list as well. Dublin are obviously the no.1 team and all the teams listed have ambitions on closing the gap to Dublin. You mention that Meath had one of the youngest panels this year and that may well be the case but I doubt they're any younger than Kerry or Donegal and Mayo brought through a lot of new players in 2019. You mention players that you hope are returning to the fold and that is good but again most counties have the same hope. I know Donegal hope to have Odhran MacNiallis, Kieran Gillespie and Mark McHugh back in 2020 and the likes of Galway didn't really have Damien Comer at all this year. Tyrone will hope to have Lee Brennan, Mark Bradley, Ronan O'Neill and Peter Canavan's son on board too. Meath like my own county don't have a great strength and depth in their panel which makes the super 8's really difficult assuming they make it that far. Injuries have really cost Donegal in the last 2 years and it's nearly impossible to avoid picking up injuries with the quick turnaround of games.

Meath are on the up but so are others and therefore it's hard to see them breaking into the top 4 or 5 teams in the country.

Good analysis, I felt things went Meaths way in division two this year, plus we fielded our strongest team for most games and were rewarded with promotion. Had a reasonable Leinster championship but the wheels came off big time against Dublin and we did not fare much better in Super 8s. If we hope to survive in Division one we will once again have to play best 15 in every game, which is not sustainable.

Meath ahead of donegal with 55 mins on clock.
Ahead of mayo with 55 min on clock
Ahead of Kerry 55 mins on clock.
Lost to donegal in league very unlucky, topped division 2 table, beat all other teams in division 2.
Roscommon relegated from top flight Meath promoted.
Also kept Dublin to 5 points in 35 minutes. Mostly due to menton keoghan who kept a all star player scoreless and had to be subbed, and McGill also may I add lavin to that to. Most teams in ire would kill for McGill lavin menton and particularly keoghan in their team."
Sorry royal but that's really scraping the barrel....mayo fans get ridiculed for saying we have this Dublin team their biggest scares over the years but fact is it only matters when you are ahead when the final whistle blows.

Meath are no doubt improving but a long way to go.

Look you right in certain aspects. But I do feel we have enough on board and coming in to be very competitive in division one. On the age thing, walsh was 18, Conlon 19, the twins are 21, that's just 4 off top of my head, harnan 24, McMahon 24. Now ok the likes of Newman 26/ keoghan 26 and biggy 29 , I haven't googled these so could be a year out but I think McGill who got nominated is 23 . So extremely young team. Beakley who will be the gk is 19, so it will take a bit of time you are right on that.

I'd have Meath at a level with the likes of Roscommon and Cavan.

Obviously Ros and Cavan are experienced having spent 3 and 2 years respectively in Division one. Meath are beginning the journey that those counties begun a good while back.

The question is whether or not Meath's ceiling will be as high as those 2 counties.

Who is this Beakley guy you keep going on about ? Andrew BEAKEY is the keeper for St Colmcilles. Jeez I thought with your Cilles history you could least get his name right. ;)

Is that even a question?

They're not going to overtake Tyrone, Donegal, Mayo, Dublin, Kerry, or Galway (if they get the manager appointment right).

You're right. They're somewhere from 7th to 12th. And there isnt much between any of the teams in that bracket. Had Cavan got Clare in the last 12, we'd have had the season Meath had. Had they got Tyrone, they'd have had the season we had. Sin é.

We got Tyrone last year and they came out of navan with the most undeserving 1 point win after extra time. Don't know how you can come up with that conclusion. Also don't underestimate Clare. They ain't a bad side and those words could come back to haunt you in league. I think we are better than both Monaghan and Galway, the year Galway went up we beat them .

hahahaha are you for real better than Galway and Monaghan??? Meath are barely top 12. Your are seriously deluded if you think anything else. Ye were slaughtered in all three super 8 games. Ye beat 4 very poor teams this year and struggled in two of them against the mighty Offaly and Clare. Roscommon and Cavan would beat Meath with ease
