Now that it's getting close do you think it's going to happen. Mayo depending on 5 or 6 lads over 30. Some injured players coming back such as Tom Parsons but he hasn't played football since May 18. Mayo will still be without maybe 5 key players due to injury and carrying knocks from a hectic summer. Mayo were lucky Donegals shooting was so poor Saturday. They won't trouble Dublin. They already took over Took Kerry 15 games (one 3 game All Ireland) It took Dublin 28 wins to win 4 and that's still going to form the greatest unbeaten run of all time far surpassing anything Kerry put together. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 05/08/2019 23:03:22 2221374 Link 5 |
If we don't stop them Saturday, I sincerely hope they do the 5 in a Row. GormlaighG (Mayo) - Posts: 77 - 05/08/2019 23:08:44 2221377 Link 1 |
Dublin will win a 5 in a row. Dublin has had several great squads throughout this decade and delighted they gave so many veterans a sort of testimonial run out by playing them in the 'Coma in Omagh' match. Playing these veterans does not distract from the fact of what Dublin as a county are now on the cusp of achieving, a remarkable 5 in row. Absolutely it will happen. Nobody will stop the Dubs this year and they will deservedly go down as the greatest of all time. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 1911 - 05/08/2019 23:27:05 2221389 Link 2 |
A certainty. Ok, nothing's ever a certainty in sport, but it's a certainty. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 06/08/2019 00:00:26 2221399 Link 0 |
I'd love to see them do the 5 in a row, something that might never be seen again, I was at the game in 2011 against Kerry and I knew we were going to be in for a period of dominance but I never truly expected to see such an era especially in the modern game where the seasons are longer, out of the 3 teams remaining I think Kerry have the best chance of stopping Dublin, never mind all this talk about development, Kerry will be confident of winning it now they are in the last 4, I'm not convinced by Tyrone at all this year and I'd be genuinely surprised if they beat Kerry. Mayo brought a great intensity Saturday night but the end product was poor, I think Dublin and Kerry have been the two best teams in the country this year and I'd expect them to meet in the final with dublin prevailing but not by much Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1595 - 06/08/2019 00:40:14 2221405 Link 0 |
Still unlikely to happen as it's against the odds. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 06/08/2019 07:29:45 2221420 Link 1 |
Think mayo will surprise alot of people and push dublin to the limit. But in reality I can see Dublin winning 6 or 7 in a row

I think they'll be pushed a lot closer than at any point last year but I think they will do it. Well deserved, they've been incredible. JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 06/08/2019 09:16:59 2221437 Link 3 |
What about the great Wexford team?

The only way Dublin will go down in history as greatest team ever is if they win this year. Otherwise they will still be seen as level by some and not as good by others as the great Kerry team.

Indeed. Wexford won four in a row, the first county to do so, in the arguably much more difficult time of 1915-1918. They also lost the 1914 final. Those lads could not have dreamt of the advantages their modern day counterparts in Kerry and then Dublin enjoyed. I may add they won six Leinsters in a row in that period too. So, a truly great team no doubt. Dublin ended their reign in 1919. We could do well to pay heed that karma does not kick us up the backside 100 years later :) CornAghais91 (Dublin) - Posts: 126 - 06/08/2019 09:57:22 2221451 Link 0 |
No other team bar Dublin has had luxury of playing their big games at home while going for the 5 in a row. Dublins for sure, but at least we'll have a good game to look forward to on Sunday in the race for second place. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 06/08/2019 09:57:23 2221452 Link 5 |

Big achievement in what must have been very hard years in Ireland. Dublin as it stands are level with them and Kerry. Dublin need to win all Ireland no 5 to be considered greatest team. Biggest fear is that they will win 10.

Well some will purposely take that stand alright But anyone that knows what they are taking about without an agenda will honestly look at it and see that it took far more endeavor for Dublin to come through 28 games unbeaten compared to 15 and if Dublin do it they'll be up at 36 games unbeaten Far eclipsing anything that came before it. It will be far from easy though.... But that's nothing new to this team. It's been incredibly competitive and in all honesty once again.. it's mad they are even going for it in the first place considering the ultimate competitiveness seen in some games. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 06/08/2019 10:37:57 2221482 Link 5 |
I'll be proved right in another short while and you'll be happy out. It's all well and good talking about those things but if Kilkennys great hurling team of a few years back couldn't do it that tells you all you need to know.
