It would be a good idea for all county boards to refuse to play against Dublin until every county gets the same funding .

If the claims of this 'analyst' (I am yet to see the article in question) are verifiable then I hope this situation is rectified ASAP and Dublin gets more funding. ;) CornAghais91 (Dublin) - Posts: 126 - 28/07/2019 15:37:24 2217610 Link 4 |
If you give every child a chance to learn the games, a certain percentage will continue to play and others will drop out for various reasons. Saying that the coaching should be abandoned because of the dropouts is lunacy.

So the only funding the GAA provide is for coaching? I find that hard to believe. If weaker counties dont have good facilities how will they attract kids to play?

I didn't suggest that. We can give children a chance to play the games without providing based on birth rates. No other sporting organisation does it.

I dont know i kind of like the idea, the most virile county gets the most funding. How much does your county mean to you! ;) *Adjusts lighting to soft. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 28/07/2019 16:51:50 2217668 Link 3 |

If there is a funding anomaly, discriminating against Dublin, it needs to be addressed. CornAghais91 (Dublin) - Posts: 126 - 28/07/2019 17:02:33 2217676 Link 3 |
Great point Legendxix!!

So are you saying that Dublin should get miniscule funding for children's coaching in order to miraculously turn every other county into AI winners? Or not? You're not being clear.

No. I'm saying we shouldn't base funding on birth rates. It's not fair on counties which will have a higher proportion of young people playing Gaelic games. At no point have I said that Dublin should get miniscule funding.

If you say that Dublin has a lower percentage of young players compared to other counties, then it stands to reason that there is scope to increase that percentage by providing extra coaches as per the objectives of the GAA.

I wouldn't suggest giving Dublin over 2 million if I wanted you to have miniscule funding. Unlike some on here who would be happy to see Dublin's funding slashed. Hawkeye9212 (Donegal) - Posts: 266 - 28/07/2019 19:03:01 2217780 Link 0 |
At the risk of stating the obvious ad nauseum, development money is for developing the new players needed for the future. It's not primarily for current players. So why base it on current player numbers? I'm open to all suggestions but this model just does not make sense if the objective is to get maximum numbers of children playing. Maybe you think that the number of Dublin players should be capped by restricting coaching? steve097 (Dublin) - Posts: 109 - 28/07/2019 19:39:29 2217797 Link 2 |
It shouldn't be based on player numbers but I would prefer that over population. I also wouldn't want the number of players to be capped. Their funding would go up if player numbers increased.
