Wexford V Tipperary

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

When was Wexford's last point from play? I reckon it was before the 50th minute. Some bottle job against 14 men. They even had the ref on their side too. Sporting justice that Tipp won.

Not a great weekend for the upstart counties.

Gutted for Wexford would have been a sweet end to a super game if they won.
Good luck to Tipp in the final

Hard luck Wexford did not really do much wrong except run out of puff near end. Tipp's bench was super and the difference. Almost back to the future with this final, can't wait.

Replying To HighStoolBandit:  "Referee decided the game. But sure look how good hurling is. Was a cracker. The GAA, everything but professional!"
He didn't decide it, Tipp won it in spite of the ref. It was like every time Tipp scored a goal I was expecting it to get called back for some reason or other.

I don't know what match you were watching, he made horrific decisions on both sides, the most blatant for Wex been the punch and Conor mac getting wrestled to the ground mma style in the square. You probably have some Tipperary blood lines so that tunnel vision is to be expected !

Can't argue with technology, or maybe you like those grey areas that ensures such a great game will only ever have a 6-7 county flavor to it!

What a game! Absolutely delighted. I've never criticized a ref here before but that was a disgrace. He should be taken off the panel immediately for that.
Ronan Maher has to be a shoe in for hurler of the year now. Tipps best player in every game so far. His block in first half and catch in second were outrageous.

Thank to both sides for such great entertainment. How long more are we going to be talking about rules that are not enforced and a game on the field that has way passed out the ability of officiating in its current form. In general I sympathize with those officials. Its is a two man job plus technology. Technology as is going to be said was not the reason Tipp had a goal pulled back. The technology was correct. It is a difficult one because play would stop and restart after a score and the goal chance maybe never materialize. The referee having a reasonable good game up to the sending off but went to pot after that and screwed Wexford over big time. Also he should face consequence for for his decisions. Standing looking at a player getting punched (red card) and not giving McGrath a straight red. Great job by Liam Sheedy but I think inspite of what he said, got the balance of the decisions. Again technology would have probable ruled out the Wexford square ball goal but Tipp should have been playing with 13 men.
The bottom line too, too many mistakes and wrong calls in our game and not trying to crucify referees.

Replying To arock:  "This day has been coming for last few years the ref is a total disaster a litany of stupid erroneous calls just outrageous watching it. No longer interested in who wins, this is just shocking. One poor decision after another, no control over their communication, making wrong interventions from Hawkeye. GAA has to look at this, these are not marginal calls he has consistently made wrong calls."
The standard of officiating that is determining big games is shocking & turning people off the sport, it just shows that if this is the elite of refereeing, you know what we are getting at club level & many parents who see such pathetic displays at club level where serious violence is swept under the carpet are opting out. I know one young lad who had to have his spleen removed from an off the ball in a club hurling game, the ref sent the aggressor off, at the disciplinary hearing which was requested by the aggressors club, it was all overturned due to direct intervention from a certain individual, that lad & his parents never had anything to do with GAA again. The big county games where people invest so much time don't deserve to be getting sub standard officiating, Saturday & Sunday have been another poor day for the GAA.

As many predicted ref was out of his depth. Sending off should have been a straight red not second yellow but ref was fully aware what that would mean. Dunphy of Laois got the red in Tipp match for same. A ton of mistakes against both teams. What a super game though , well played all.

Wexford should have had a penalty after the sending off

Great entertainment and great win for Tipp.Congrats to them.Wexford will be sore for a long time as they had a great chance to win but blew it.
Ref was awful.Time for the GAA to get its act together, maybe it's time to have a ref in each half and a video ref?

Ah sure lads we lost. Long spin home. Could've gone either way. Well done to Tipp they won a close game. Well done to our players and management on a great summers excitement for us. Hopefully the lads will pick themselves up and go 1 or 2 better next year! Think Cody and Kilkenny will be happy they have the final they would probably prefer!

Overall the ref made 3 huge howlers. 1st was Conor McDonalds goal. The thing here is that it took us the viewers and Michael Duignan 4 replays to spot this.

The second was the heffernan thing. Thats a red all day.

What didnt effect the game today was the McGrath sending off. Thats a straight red. Has to be.

For jake Morris goal he had the whistle well gone to be fair to him.

As a Cavan man I have little or no knowledge of hurling. I don't watch it all that much, quite simply it just doesn't feature on the radar of most sports fans in Cavan.

But I watched the game this afternoon. It was a total masterpiece of sporting entertainment from start to finish. I was gutted for Wexford, the extra man just didn't seem to make a difference for them. Full credit to Tipp, they showed serious mental resolve to come back and win in that fashion.

I'll be watching more hurling from now on.

Totally agree, it's a pity that everyone missing the point that this was a savage match. We bring great color and excitement, and occasionally get success.
It's always nice to see the big 3 being challenged, if that doesn't happen the game is dead. Ref should get some leeway as intensity out there was savage.
Good luck to Tipperary, think we can hold heads high as challenging the top table again, hurling needs the Wexford's, Clare's, waterfords, Dublin's, limericks asking those questions of the top teams.

Thats a good result from the game. If you and others take up watching the game and your kids or grandkids then take up playing it and other counties then start being competitive at a higher level thats all good for our national sport!!

Says fellow Leinster man who has already posted how the referee was out of his depth. Out of interest was that not a secong red?

To be fair to him? There's refs in junior games implementing the advantage rule properly! Are you serious?

unbelievable drama. bizarre refereeing display.
but a great game nonetheless. feel a little bit sorry for wexford, a tough one to take after being 5 point and a man up, but some fight shown by tipp to claw it back
