Andy McEntee Was Right To Tell A Reporter To Stick It

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To Analyst:  "Oh my god, that is some statement. The day that any club, hurling or football is asked to play a championship match without county players is the day the club game is finished. That statement is code for players being bullied by a county manager that if they play with club then they are out in the cold. Simonstown lads took a stand on this last year"
And as Simons town lads took a stand , are they back .... Conlon etc.

Replying To Wedgie:  "Of course it was a valid question and the journalist had every right to ask it without having to put up with a childish rant like this!
Wasn't it Andy who called for all the hurleys in Meath to be burnt a few years ago?
He was probably still upset at the success of the Meath hurlers the day before especially having presided over that embarrassing disaster of a display against the old enemy.
Meath hurling is on the rise while Meath football is miles off the pace of the serious football counties.
Who could blame the hurlers on the panel opting to play for their clubs this weekend instead of sitting on a bench watching that muck...?"
Correction , I believe it was Gerry ........

Correction , we came second in the 2nd and move to the first now.

Replying To Roger:  "If anyone thinks Andy's position is under threat because of this then they are not living in the real world. I've spoken to a lot of people about it. It is a topic of conversation and a lot of people knew of the row before it made the paper. i wasn't sure what way people would go, but nearly everyone I spoke to backed McEntee which surprised me. I think with the county under fire from a lot of outsiders, people tend to circle the wagons which is what is happening here.
Personally I think Andy was out of order and should apologise but I think the Chronicle were wrong to make the big thing about it. I think they had it on three different sections of the paper. At the same time it is a great story so you have to see their view. Paper sales are falling all the time and they have gone tabloid to survive. They probably would have ran the story even if Andy said sorry as they have jobs to keep going."
My clear understanding from someone in the paper is they would not have ran the piece had an apology been forthcoming.

How can you say it has had a galvanizing effect on players. For me if they don't get to the Super 8's we have not improved at all. Armagh have improved, Donegal have improved albeit they had half a team out against us in League Final. I have sympathy for Andy but he should not be running his mouth like that at anyone. You can say getting to Division 1 is a sign of improvement but Offaly should have beat us, Dublin tanked is playing shit for 40 minutes. We need talk sense. Yes we are up to Division 1 and that's where we need to be but Championship is real yard stick and we are not looking anything like a Division 1 team that I do know .

This is like that arsenal supporters argument on twitter about Jackson Martinez being 28 but closer to being 29 than 28 because he was 28 over 6 months ago. Absolute nonsense. How does lad not understand that we finished TOP of Division 2. What happened in the final is irrelevant. We topped the actual league part of Division 2.

impressed ? ....will be interesting to see if Andy selects the 3 Cills forwards for our next encounter . ? Would he bring in Quinn ,Collins into that forward line ,and drop Graham ,and Ben ....I would give conlon the first half to see how he gets on

Very strange comment. Not sure what point you are trying to make. It kind of demeans our achievement in getting promotion. However, we were well beaten by Donegal. To even try and imply anything different is strange.

Another strange comment. I am not sure how you would know if it has had or hasn't had a galvanizing effect on any of the 3 groups mentioned.

Players ? How would we know at this stage?

County Board? Have they even met since? Their silence could mean several things.

Supporters? Quite a few online seem to agree with Andy but that's online and probably doesn't represent a majority of supporters overall and, once again, we have no way of knowing.

I agree that to say this has had a galvinising effect is nonsensical . If it was a reporter and press from outside the county perhaps ...but for this to blow up with one of our own ,it is anything but galvinising ! I suspect the Dublin hammering may have effected RD logic a bit mote than usual !

I doubt the players appreciated this after such a crushing defeat and I doubt any of them expected to playing hurling this week. McEntee will for sure use it for motivation.

Did you read the post I was responding to???
Obviously not.
Ok I'll explain it to you. The poster said we finished second in the league scraping promotion. Got that ?ok. I responded that we actually topped the table and therefore were promoted first.
It's really not that difficult to comprehend, is it????

Ironically your talking the total opposite of your username. Clear progress made this year. No need for me to embellish

RD, you need to a get a little more attention to detail.

The original quote was…. "Welcome a third tier? You might have missed the league there fella where we have it tiered in to 4 - we topped the 2nd to move in to 1..."

As you well know the GAA National League is tiered into 4. Meath were in the second of those tiers. Each year the competition is run with a series of league games with a final that determines who is declared the winners or top of the division or tier. On this occasion Donegal won out.

The key question was "Who topped the second tier?" Not "Who topped the league stage of the second tier before the final took place?"
In case you forgot this is direct from the GAA website.
https://www.gaa.ie/football/news/allianz-fl-d2-final-donegal-finish-strongly/

So, according to the GAA's own website the team that finished top of the second tier is Donegal. Had the reverse happened I am sure a certain person would be reminding us all about it from the rooftops :)
