Round 3 Qualifiers

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Armagh Mayo will be tie of the round. This could be game of the year. Both teams just go for it. Armagh possess Irelands most exciting young player Rian O'Neill. Mayo a team full of good footballers. I expect lots of kickpassing in this. Mayo will probably edge a high scoring shootout. Armagh are capable of anything though. Thats the danger for Mayo that if Armagh click they can be dangerous opponents.

Kildare Tyrone will be a headless chicken handpassing borefest. 2 gym manufactured teams. Avoid this one. Diving gymboys will probably bore Kildare to defeat. Ref will need eyes in the back of his head for this one.

Clare could be surprise packets and make Super 8's, fast lively skillfull team. I expect an upset here and expect them to beat Westmeath.

Laois Offaly. Hard to call. 2 teams everyone was looking to draw. Might tip Laois here.

Mad that Cork are waiting for one of these teams after a sole victory against Limerick. Should Armagh get there they'll have beaten Down, Monaghan and Mayo.

Roscommon fans should be getting excited. Things are shaping up nicely for them to make a semi final.

Give the round 3 qualifier that took place in Newbridge last year a look and tell me again that Kildare play a boring handpass oriented game style..

Assuming that mayo and Tyrone come through, possibility of them being drawn against Cavan and cork, who they should beat also, that would leave Ros in a group with Dublin, Mayo and Tyrone! Long way from a semi final!

I'm sure they will be waiting to see who they get in super 8s before thinking about a semi final ,if they get mayo or Tyrone in super 8s if they win on sat I doubt they will be thinking too much about a semi final

That game is the exception to Kildare's championship matches over the past 5 seasons, not the norm.

I don't agree with you on this game Dessie but had to upvote your description of football Armageddon. Brilliant!

'Kildare Tyrone will be a headless chicken handpassing borefest. 2 gym manufactured teams'

This 'gym manufactured' nonsense about Kildare started when Geezer was our Manager so it must be equally true about the current Armagh team too so.

I must have dreamt two of the best games of last year's championship in Newbridge v Mayo & Galway. Damn it, I quite enjoyed thinking I was actually there.

Well that is looking at the worst case scenario. If you look at the best case scenario Roscommon would be heavy favourites to get out of the group. I was talking to a Rossie recently who bet 10 euro on them winning the All Ireland at 150/1 (currently 28/1). There are some optimistic souls out there.

Mayo look to be finished on my observation last weekend not in the legs anymore.

A good bet would be to go with Armagh this weekend

10 euro will hardly break the bank

A few good match-ups here, no doubt. Slightly cheered me up today to see the draw I might add! Hard games to call.

Mayo-Armagh: Mayo cant catch a break it seems. Very tough draw again. As it's in Castlebar I'll go for Mayo by 3 points but this is banana skin city.

Clare-Westmeath: An interesting draw again. Clare are used to Division 2 and it stands to them but a game in Mullingar is no picnic. Ill give it to the neighbours by 1.

Tyrone-Kildare: Newbridge round 2. Again a big banana skin for Tyrone. Im going to go out on a limb and say Kildare by 1 because they're due a big game. Kildare are unpredictable though and could be beaten easily unless they show up.

Laois-Offaly: Very interesting tie. Offaly are a good team, should have beaten Meath in Leinster. Laois are always a solid team. I've a fondness for this Offaly side so Id like to see them prevail but a win for either would be great for them.

I agree. Kildare get unfair criticism. That shootout last year in Newbridge 19 points to 16 for Galway (31 scores from play) was a classic but got totally overlooked by Monaghan Kerry on the same day. I actually predicted after that that Kildare would be the coming team with the u20 victory. May still happen overtime.

If the Rossies win Sam our other other neighbours will go into meltdown after coming very close themselves a few times a few yrs ago.

Have you not learnt your lesson in 2017.
As good as Roscommon are it was more down to Mayos poor attitude that caught them that day.
If they get to croke park they will bring the focus and intensity that will likely be too much for many of the super 8 teams.

We're maddeningly inconsistent, that's our biggest problem......if someone suggested Tyrone would beat us cos they are better I would have no problem with that......but to suggest we are a boring gym manufactured team with the talent we have in the forwards is just, lazy, uneducated, ignorant sniping.

Can Laois/Offaly play Meath?"
I think so. I remember this wouldn't be allowed one time but I think it is allowed now.

If Meath draw Laois/Offaly or Westmeath/Clare they would be favourites to go through i think.

I think Mayo and Tyrone will come through on the other draws. They or Armagh and Kildare are the teams to avoid in the next round.

Yes, just like the entire division 2 campaign and the games against Laois, Meath and Dublin the year before that...
