First half, as Ciaran Whelan said on telly we showed the blueprint of how to defend against the Dubs.
Unfortunately we missed too many chances, my lad texted me after fifteen minutes to say 'Take Brennan off frees.'
The 'keeper gave away two points, one that came from a sideline move after he kicked the ball out from a restart, one after he put a defender under pressure after a kick from his hands.
The half forward line let McAffrey and McCarthy run riot going forward.
Memo to Meath half forward it is not how fast they can run that counts but how quick the can limp.
The delivery to the inside line was worse than DHL's during a strike.
And despite all that we were only four down at the break.
Second half another missed free almost straight away and suddenly they have the start we needed and they kicked on from there.
I certainly won't criticise Biggy but his future is behind him.
All this talk about millions being poured into the Dubs is irrelevant, it was an even playing pitch today and when we missed simple chances they converted difficult ones.
Conlon had a worse nightmare than Freddie Kruger but kept showing for the ball despite that.
Overall it's like the old FF slogan, 'Much done more to do

That's a fair reflection. And hard to argue.
The only thing I'll say is we move on, win the next game and we have achieved all our goals. And it will have been a great year

I believe that you have got it in a nutshell there. But the dogs in the street knew that the kickouts would be a problem. For over a few years all know this but nothing has been done about it. Freetaking.? A reminder from the League Final, Barry Dardis converted a 45 from the right sideline, yet a few minutes later we had one from a central position, was Barry given the task? NO, what happened next lost that game, but that is history. What is more annoying is that nothing has been learned.

I could go on and on but to compete with the top teams you must have a kickout strategy, convert 90% plus of frees inside 45 mts, gain at least parity at midfield or have a plan to nullify the opposition there by crowding etc, stop the halfbacks attacking at will and by all means if you are going to go 'route one' with long ball you must have a big targetman.

Now to illustrate the difference between being in the zone and fully tuned in, yesterday we hit the woodwork from frees at least twice and got nothing from the rebounds. On Saturday a long distance Jack Regan free came back of the post and Adam Gannon had the ball in the net in less than the twinkle of an eye, because he was fully tuned into every possibility. Now I don't want to start a debate between the merits of the two teams but one fully expected to win while the other team were outsiders and deep down containment was probably foremost on their minds. This was achieved in the first half but opportunities lost will eventually drain the spirit.

We have two major weak points. Free kicks and kick outs. Some will say Newman is the answer but he's had plenty of disastrous days on the frees as well. Who are the best two in the county in terms of free kicks and kick outs? Surely we have two better out there.

Midfield is also a major, major problem and it takes away one kickout option.

Why's he not with Meath? Did he turn down the invite? He'd make a serious inside forward.

Why aren't we producing top quality forwards ?
I know its a bit unfair the lads have been great all year especially getting promoted. Also I think Andy Mc Entee needs to better man management skills taking off Thomas O'Reilly at 34 mins in the first half against Carlow was extremely hard on the young lad. I know he wasn't playing well. but we We where 9 points up. Why not wait the 2 or 3 minutes until half time ? I think he has killed his confidence.

Kickouts cost us more than two points, in was a constant source of possession for Dublin in second half, Conlon may have had a nightmare but it was not of his own making, smallest man on field as our target man. How could management think this was a good idea? As you said we missed so many scoreable chances in first half and it just drained any bit of confidence that was in us.

Simple reason. To many lads playing lower tier underage football and junior/intermediate adult. Need to start picking from our top clubs or look for lads on the parent rule. Roscommon have a connaught title with a Kerry man up front while we are left with nothing . Look outside the county and not at Meath juniors or junior clubs

Young keeper from Ratoath, kick outs are top drawer, hanlon from kells and Mc Carthy Dunboyne best free takers. POR not far behind but don't go there

agree many Meath supporters on here and on here and on Facebook just want to knock our team. it didn't work well for us yesterday but the score board didn't show a true reflection. 2-17 to 1-12 would have been about right. we just paniced under pressure. we are just one game away from the super eights which if we could get there would be a great experience for this young team. it's hateful when you have to defend your county to your own county people which I am doing all day. fair play to you Mr Dunne your always positive about the Meath team

Young keeper from Ratoath? Duffy is the Ratoath keeper and is probably mid30s - he is a Monaghan man too!
