What a job he carried out with Monaghan.

As a Cavan man, I'm delighted to see him gone. Why? Because of his brilliance with Monaghan.
He worked miracles with that team. They were no hopers when he took over, languishing in division three. But he won league titles and Ulster championships in the most unlikely of circumstances.

He'll go down as a legend in Monaghan for all he achieved and he leaves behind a solid group, albeit an injection of youth is needed.
Best of luck to him, he certainly won't be short of job offers.

He owes them nothing. presided over their most succesfull period in history I would say. They were agonisingly close to an All-Ireland final last year and who knows but they would have rattled Dublin in the final too. They were very flat this year though so it's probably right to freshen things up with a new voice in the dressing room and on the training ground. Who will be in the frame, I wonder. ?

Rochford of Mayo would be a shrew acquisition.

He leaves the people of Monaghan with some great memories. Always have an admiration for Monaghan due to their ability to compete with the top teams recently in the face of such a small population.

Malachy is an astute manager who done an extremely good job with Monaghan and carried it out with great dignity.

All the very best to him. As poster said above, found him to be very dignified in victory and defeat. I remember him towards us, when he must have been bitterly disappointed. He made no excuses. He can look back with great pride at what he, and to be fair, the players themselves, acieved. Fantastic "team".

Oh dear God I'd rather watch paint dry. Fermanagh under Pete McGrath would have blown monaghan away 2 weeks ago. Gallagher is anti football. Think will be Ciaran McBride or Tony McEntee.

Will go down as one of Monaghan's best ever managers, great manager with a very good set of players which give Monaghan 7 great years. I've always found outside managers no matter how successful and emotionally attached to the job tend not to care too much about the county beyond their team.

O'Rourke stepping down is confirmation his team has run it's course and there is nothing else to give. This now heralds a rebuild in Monaghan and whilst I've read about players coming through I would say look across at Cavan? How many Ulster U21 titles did they win and yet still took almost a decade after the last one to reach a senior final?

Ulster has a habit of developing great teams but also a habit of sending successful counties into a long famine. I think Monaghan's time is up and with the likes of upcoming teams like Cavan, Armagh joining Donegal and Tyrone it could a while before Monaghan make an impact again.

Thank You Malachy

Thank You Malachy

They say all good things come to an end. It has been a fantastic seven years for Monaghan football thanks to MOR, the players, the sponsors, the supporters, the county board… MOR brought something special to Monaghan and I think it's important that we celebrate many of his achievements over the last seven years and thank him for the memories and what he has achieved for Monahan football.

Two Ulster Titles, a special win against Galway to get Monahan to an All Ireland Semi Final last year, Super 8 Football including beating Kildare and memorable games such as drawing with Kerry in Clones, regular Quarter Finals and outings to Croke Park, regular top quality football against the best teams in the country by remaining in Division One and great performances to boot, one of the best managerial records against the best football team arguably ever in the shape of the Dubs and so much more…. Yes, he had one of the best footballers in the country at his best in the shape of Mc Manus but Monaghan have always produced some especially talented footballers and yet many previous teams did not achieve anything like MOR and this team achieved.

It's very rare in sport that people bow out at the top and when we look back at MOR's achievements in a few years he will surely be remembered as one of the best Monaghan Managers of all time. One of the highlights for me was how he got Monaghan over the line against Tyrone on a number of occasions, a team we just could not appear to beat at any level for a number of years before he joined us. There is no doubt lots of counties all over the country will be contacting MOR this morning doing their utmost to obtain his expertise and to try an emulate just some of the success the Farney Army have experienced.

Thank you MOR - you will always have a special place in the hearts of all Monaghan GAA folk and I am sure a large part of your heart will remain in Monaghan too for the rest of your days.

Onwards and upwards!

He did a great job for Monaghan. Delivered their 1st Ulster title since the 80s I believe and backed it up with another 2 years later.

Well done Malachy.
