I watched back the Tipp v Limerick game does anyone else think Callanan fouled the ball?

I don't tbh. In my playing experience you get away with dropping the ball.

Do you remember Brian Corcoran's drop shot goal v Waterford around 2006? He dropped the ball to do a drop shot on the bounce. Seamie, just a pull on the ground. That's my reading of it.

Yeah I dunno looks like he threw it in front of him rather than a straight drop on my initial viewing.

It's hard enough to tell at pace alright. He's some goal scoring machine! At 32 he has a bit to go to Nicky Rackard, 59 ish? That's mad goal scoring when there was less championship games.

Callinan is up there with Joe and TJ. Underrated I think. Seems like a sound fella off the field too.

100% fouled the ball , he threw it out to give himself an unfair advantage, still a class goal and doesn't really matter this game will soon be forgotten.

I know almost nothing about hurling but I'm learning a bit from the GAA Hour. They discuss the goal about 52 minutes into this week's podcast, can't find the full podcast to link.

Yes he did. Shocked no pundit mentioned it at the time. Happens in a lot of game in different areas of the pitch and rarely penalised.

Also, if you watch the way Seamie looked around before celebrating, he knew he fouled the ball.

I think most refs would let it slide. I think he inadvertently threw the ball too far in front of himself and had to stretch to hit it.

A player cant throw the ball, he did and it was not a drop shot so should have been a free. In the modern game a ref cannot see everything so it was probably 1 of 20 fouls that did not get spotted. This works for both teams in most matches. I am very quick to notice the bad calls that go against Limerick but maybe not so much the fouls we get away with.

He fouled the ball but I'd wager that if he any player did that 100 times they'd never be blown up for it.

Not sour grapes but is was a clear foul and Seamie knew it and was surprised himself he got away with it.
Must be a straight drop down. he clearly threw it out in front to gain an advantage.
William O'Donoghue was blown up for it V Cork and the ref was well behind him.

The goal to me was a foul but well taken. You can't blame S.C. for trying it.

Yep. Thought it at the time. Thought it after watching again after nobody mentioned it. He dropped the ball to play it/strike which, unless legal in small square then I'd say absolutely a foul. Can't drop your hurl either in order to play the ball, etc. Neither called often but seen both blown against KK a few years back IIRC.

After scoring 1-4 from play on Sunday, Callanan is only 8 points from becoming the all-time championship top-scorer from play. Shefflin currently holds the record. In the form Callanan's in, you'd expect him to get it pretty soon.

Ya, I suppose alright, and Kilkenny would be know for fouling. Gway home outta that yank with yourself.

I feel it was a legitimate goal and I would count it as a drop shot. The ball was probably thrown at most 2 yards in front of him, he let it drop and his momentum carried him to it, it was a good piece of skill and quick thinking. If Aaron Gillane got a similar goal disallowed I would be bulling.

Quite an ignorant post from an ignorant poster. Just used a KK match I remember, never said the frees weren't deserved. Getting insulted for being a yank by someone living here.
