This is a tasty qualifier. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 17/06/2019 15:11:32 2196557 Link 1 |
This has the makings of a great game. I have watched Armagh in the Ulster Championship and have been impressed with some of the younger players introduced. I think they can improve as the season goes on and I expect them to knock out Monaghan. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1780 - 17/06/2019 16:45:29 2196641 Link 0 |
Not much talk about this game really. im looking forward but very nervous. A lot will depend on the match ups in the monaghan full back line. A line that has not been as good as previous years. and the Armagh full forward line is there best its very dangerous and very sharp. i think it will be 1 or 2 points either way and here is hoping were in the round 3 draw. farneygael (Monaghan) - Posts: 277 - 18/06/2019 18:59:27 2197240 Link 0 |
Is this being shown on Sky, they are supposed to be showing one of the qualifiers on Saturday but no news yet which game it is. cockneyrebel (UK) - Posts: 4 - 18/06/2019 19:08:36 2197245 Link 0 |
Two dirtiest teams in Ulster going at it. It will hard hitting low quality affair Game2Halves (Tyrone) - Posts: 265 - 18/06/2019 20:06:45 2197280 Link 0 |
Armagh conceded 23 points against an average Cavan team. Armagh give away too many scores and frees. OK going forward, back is the problem. Can't see anything other than a Monaghan win with Beggan having a field day with frees. Rian will try to carry the whole thing again. Am abroad so was also looking with interest at Sky's possible coverage of QR2. I may be wrong but at this stage it appears as though they have chosen not to televise any game Saturday. The timing of both our game v Armagh and Mayo v Down means two high-ish profile qualifiers happen to clash with Cork v Kerry in Munster's final. I also wonder whether our Clones game being the day before the Ulster final could have logistical issues. Whilst it wouldn't be impossible for Sky to broadcast a game the evening before RTE/BBCNI, it is also easy to imagine plenty of "politics" at work. It's the holy trinity of Northern Sound, Twitter and novenas. (And Hop House). Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 358 - 19/06/2019 20:11:44 2197724 Link 4 |
If Armagh have a big performance in them this summer, this will be it. They were lucky against Down. Should have had it wrapped up much earlier. 14 men and all. They could have beaten Cavan first day out but got nervous. They were never in my opinion going to win the replay. Monaghan have had a poor year since beating a Dublin side still on their holidays. An Armagh win would not surprise me. OGarmaile (Tyrone) - Posts: 248 - 20/06/2019 10:32:56 2197855 Link 0 |
Are you Tiernan McCann in disguise?

I've seen both these teams twice this year. Armagh comprehensively were better on both occasions. Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 20/06/2019 13:55:00 2197964 Link 0 |
Although its a typical swipe at Monaghan from the neighbours I agree with the post. The win against Fermanagh was made very hard by Monaghan. You are correct, Fermanagh gave us the chances. Cavan did it too but we were so bad that day we didnt take them. The only thing I would add is that if Monaghan actually perform they will win this game with a few to spare. It's not a swipe, it's the truth.

Not surorised by this result, two teams going in the opposite direction. Monaghan just havent got going at all this year, they are much better side than this. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1876 - 22/06/2019 20:53:09 2198686 Link 0 |
Puts into perspective too how good Cavan are who beat Armagh. Donegal_abroad (Donegal) - Posts: 1321 - 22/06/2019 21:12:27 2198698 Link 0 |
As our only neighbours who actually have a bit of time for Meath, it's sad to see Monaghan gone this early. They're better than this on paper. Maybe their journey and story over the last few seasons is over, I hope not as they definitely rattled a few cages last year and their inability to finish off Kerry had me swinging from the ceiling. Armagh are a good side and a good bet to push on to the 8's. In the league in Navan they came back from 8/10 down to nearly win the game only for a lucky Meath goal. They're a team that has been looking for this opportunity for a few years. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 589 - 22/06/2019 21:16:18 2198699 Link 4 |
Expected Armagh to win this, Malachy has taken Monaghan as far as he can, fresh voice and fresh bodies needed, they have done well in recent years and deserve great credit but change is needed Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 22/06/2019 21:16:26 2198700 Link 5 |
Well, I called it correctly. Monaghan, as I said, are a team on the wane and they simply haven't the quality to replace Wylie and McManus. They looked bereft of ideas against Cavan, and they were even worse against Fermanagh. This result was coming. Well done Armagh.
