Donegal putting on a clinic here. Feel bad for Cavan, was really hoping they could do it.

Replying To The_Fridge:  "Dublin would beat Donegal and beat them well.

It's Tyrone mark 2.
Exact same tactics.
Dublin know how to play against this and more importantly beat this kind of system."
Tactics wise very similar but donegal have a set of scoring forwards that Tyrone haven't had in over a decade.

Replying To baire:  "If I were a Dub I'd fear Donegal too - they're strong, pacy, accurate and they wouldn't fear Dublin. The biggest threat to the drive for 5 that I have seen this year."
Look through next best alright. Tick all the right boxes . Kickouts , midfield, pacy attacking hb line and classy array of scoring forwards.
You'd wonder why they felt the need to revert to a more defensive default setting for this cavan team. That's maybe their only tick against them going to the matches past the super8's. The kind of defensive fear that sets in that has hampered Tyrone and monaghan in years past

Great to win another Ulster title but, like the Tyrone game, Donegal were poor in the second half conceding 2-11.
I doubt Dublin are sweating.

I'm getting more and more impressed every time I see Donegal play ,took the foot off the gas abit and went for PTS when could of got goals and hammered Cavan .
A long way to go yet and mayo Tyrone galway might have a say but I'd predict a Dublin Donegal final as both teams will win their super 8 group and avoid each other in semi final

Donegal have reverted to type. Is Jimmy McGuiness back? It's a pity, they tried expansive football last year under Bonner but now obviously winning has outweighed the need to play entertaining football. Awful to watch, using their big physical players to spoil the game, 15 men behind the ball. Back to the norm for Donegal . I think the attacking mark will be introduced next year and hopefully will be end of this sort of playing once and for all. I thought it was just a tactic against Tyrone but obviously this is how they set up. Back to rubbish football .

Did you watch the game? They scored 1-24. You're talking nonsense.

I suppose we could have scored 3 27 instead of the 1 24 defensive rubbish we saw today.

Hilarious post.

No question about it, Donegal were comprehensively the better team today and congrats to them.

As for us, well, we never got going in that game. Second to every ball. Poor defensively. Missed easy chances. And left ourselves with a mountain to climb.
We have undoubtedly improved this year, but we still have glaring weaknesses. Nerves played a big role in our defeat, time and time again we got ourselves into easy scoring positions only for lads to turn back and lay it off. That's a confidence issue. In the era of total football, your full back needs to be comfortable kicking scores, it's the way the game has gone. We didn't have that today.

This experience will stand to the lads, undoubtedly. The weight of expectation on the team was massive, only natural given the lack of success over the last fifty years.

We'll be back. Better days ahead for us.

Donegal were strong all over the park. They stopped Cavan from breaking quickly. It allowed themselves to get numbers behind the ball. Why wouldn't they do that? Why wouldn't they make it difficult for their opponents?

They mixed up their attacking also and did play directly to McBrearty a time or 2. It wasn't a great game but Donegal look a solid outfit and at this stage the team that look best placed to cause Dublin problems.

To quote Spillane, it was a 5 point hammering. Think Donegal took the foot off the pedal in the 2nd half, as they knew they had done enough. Cavan incredibly nervous in the first half.
Well done Donegal.

Tyrone fans and Mickey Harte always said look at the scores we are racking up.

But we were criticised from pillar to post.

Donegal are a defensive/counter attacking team.

The exact same as Tyrone are/were.

All the pundits said they were defensive. Donegal are a defensive team. They had all men behind the ball with 2 sweepers at all times.

But you want to know why....they have the players to do it and fair play to them. They are getting results.

Now they play like this and Dublin will beat them.

They play the type of football Tyrone want to play. Strong defence, pacy half back line, quality tackling, the quick turnover, but the big difference which makes them entertaining and effective is they have something Tyrone don't have; a top quality forward line which allows us to see great scores. Donegal are starting to look the real deal and could continue to dominate the Ulster Championship for a few years yet. I'm not surprised to see salty Tyrone posters though.
