I thought it was an absolute disgrace that the GAA would pay tribute to a GAA player playing for the 100th time in a GAA competition. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 11/06/2019 10:38:59 2193383 Link 5 |
I don't remember them doing anything for Darragh O'Sé when he hit 88 in the allireland final of 09. It must be a Dublin thing. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 11/06/2019 11:16:02 2193402 Link 1 |
88? Why would they?

Because it was a record at the time.

The magical number of 88. How could they possibly have ignored it? In other sports players have their century of caps marked, often by leading out the team. Cluxton is the first player to reach a century in championship football. You might be shocked to also hear that there's no special acknowledgement of players reaching 88 caps in other sports. There are no prizes for two fat ladies. The magic century is where it's at.

Cluxton broke the record last year and there was no official acknowledgement. As have Sean Cavanagh and Tomás Ó Sé at different stages in the last few years. This was to do with marking 100 appearances. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2053 - 11/06/2019 13:12:26 2193473 Link 3 |
Right. Its hardly the point. To be honest I have not heard of this happening in this way before for any kind of milestone but I am happy to be corrected on that. Of course it needs to be marked and respected. Is the appropriate time to do it right before a Leinster Semi Final? Kildare have to watch a tribute to their opposition keeper right before playing them. After the game would have been more tasteful. The Dubs can they enjoy that and the win. Oh it's an other sports thing, that's why I haven't heard of it before.

Exactly, think of all the other players to reach the 100 Championship games milestone and not a thing done for them! Disgraceful!!

Or maybe because nobody reached 100 championship appearances until now. It'd be hard for the GAA to acknowledge something which never happened. Have a little think about that.

Sure I don't think it made the slightest bit of difference truth be told. If it was played 100 times the result would have been no different. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 11/06/2019 17:53:50 2193605 Link 3 |
Is cluxton an English name? Iv never heard that name before stevo. Hi it's some achievement getting to 100 games but like I said earlier on 95% of those were played at home. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 11/06/2019 18:03:01 2193610 Link 0 |
