2019 Joe McDonagh Cup

(Oldest Posts First)

Laois are going well. 2 wins from 2 against Offaly and Antrim..

Antrim with wins over Kerry and Offaly are safe in the McDonagh Cup. They'll be looking to beat Westmeath at home to make the final and pre-quarter-finals.

Kerry had a good win over Westmeath but could be facing what will essentially be a relegation final against Offaly in the final game.

Westmeath had a good win over Offaly but lost to Kerry.

Offaly have been beaten by Laois, Westmeath and Antrim. They'll be hoping for Kerry to fall to Laois so that they will have a relegation final to save their bacon.

It's been an interesting battle so far. There isn't a whole lot between the 5 teams. There's a big battle for the top 2 and a tough battle to avoid the drop to Ring level.

It is not in Offaly's hands, whether they stay in Joe McD, we go to Tralee hoping for a win, and depending on Laois to beat Kerry in their next game to stay up. Interesting games ahead, sadly it looks like Christy Ring for Offaly next year, unless results fall in their favour.

Laois are hot favourites against Kerry. Kerry have a poor record against Offaly in playoffs. Laois are likely to give Offaly the lifeline they require.

i feel Antrim have the momentum to make the final now. The way they pulled off a victory against Offaly was impressive seeing as they were away from home, A new determination in offaly for new manager and playing for most of the game with 14 players were 3 factors they overcame. Westmeath are better team on paper but are blowing hot and cold too much at the moment and going up to dunloy will be a few extra men for antrim. I think Offaly will overcome Kerry just about for the sole reason its just unimaginable to see an all ireland winning county from 20 years ago to go back to third grade...if it happens Offaly will go down in history for a hurling couny to decline in such a rate.
