Whilst I initially had sympathy for the Carlow bans which I felt were fairly excessive (without knowing the full facts); having witnessed yesterday first hand how Carlow 'play' with late hits, high tackles, drag downs and punching players in front of officials - I can say that the thuggish behaviour is what led to the bans and there is nowhere for it in the game. The video didn't even lead to the bans. It just showed they were on the pitch talking to the ref. The ref's report on what they said to him is what resulted in the bans. Poacher didn't want to go into any detail on this and didn't deny anything in the ref's report. The video was pretty irrelevant to be honest, but even so, why would he have a problem with it showing what happened? Take your punishment, move on and stop looking for bogeymen everywhere. Get over it. Different game back in the 1980s. Meath played hard but fair. Take a look at the Carlow they were an embarrassment to the sport Royalio11 (Meath) - Posts: 757 - 26/05/2019 15:54:56 2187652 Link 1 |
Carlow always played an attractive brand of football down through the yrs unfortunately under the present management they have become almost unwatchable same tactics now three yrs running no plan b no discipline .Then I suppose if you don't have discipline on the line your not going to have it on the field. dubarra (Wicklow) - Posts: 541 - 26/05/2019 15:56:53 2187654 Link 0 |
I never mentioned the 80's. It just amazes me sometimes how Ulster teams constantly get it in the neck, whilst in 20+ years following Wexford football, the 2 most "physical" teams I've seen are both from Leinster. extranjero (Wexford) - Posts: 375 - 26/05/2019 16:57:00 2187679 Link 2 |
No discipline on the line, no discipline on the pitch, no point in whinging about it. befair (Down) - Posts: 237 - 26/05/2019 17:09:45 2187685 Link 2 |
That's it, the Haydens, Johnny Nevin, Willie Quinlan etc in the 1980s and 1990s great players.

Exaggerations and little porkies is not new reading for me, provocative sly hits like the one dished out to Sean Murphy didn't help us, admittedly there was no trade mark elbows flying, you are right though when you say the bans dished out to Carlow were severe. We all make mistakes, so please allow me to correct one or two of yours as in the last line of your post, "The critizing comments from the suspended coach are praiseworthy". I know that's what you meant so I put it right for you, and it reads a lot better. Have a good day. PS I have a gut feeling we will meet again in the qualifiers. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2908 - 26/05/2019 21:48:29 2187848 Link 1 |
If the cap fits wear it and yes your right about discipline problems with the about mentioned counties. But name me a county that has no baggage.

I don't recall wishing for anything, I simply said I have a gut feeling, there is a difference you know.

I'll tell you what we are wishing for dubarra, you lot home or away in the draw tomorrow morning. With so many now missing, ye'r about the only team we can be sure of beating. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1412 - 26/05/2019 23:16:40 2187895 Link 0 |
What a load of spout. "Provocative sly hits"? Murphy was his own worse enemy. He was pathetic as it took him 3 attempts to land a slap in Keoghan. An embarrassment to the sport of football and even boxing. End of his summer too but he probably wanted an end to his season as playing for hammerings cant be easy. Take your medicine on this one. 15 points defeat flattered Carlow. They are classless; play a negative brand of defensive muck football and are not winning any fans. I used to support the likes of Carlow. Give the sucker a chance. Root for the no-hoper. But I'll relish watching them get stuffed year in year out until they learn their lesson. You have a gut feeling we will meet again? Shows how much you know. Teams who previously played in provincials cannot get drawn against each other in qualifiers. Anyway after the thumping your boys took I'd say playing Meath is the last thing that team wants. Pain of Championship 2019 will be over for Carlow soon. Carlow unrising but still moaning.
