Cavan Vs Armagh

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think this is going to be an interesting game , Cavan's stronger in the backs and Armagh is stronger in the forwards , It will be good to see how young ONeill does now that he will be tightly man marked , in fairness he played excellent against Down , Armagh's defence looks very vulnerable , if Cavan attacks it with quick direct ball I feel Armagh could be in bother . It's a big game for both teams with both really needs to make a Ulster final . I can see Cavan win because Armagh's will end up having to pull two sweepers back limiting there attack

A number of years back they did away with county forums that were inactive, some counties just don't have a lot of folk using them. Strangely Cork do not have one either, for the size of the county that's odd. I imagine it was hard for admin to track forums not in regular use.

On paper Cavan should win by a few but it's ulster championship and anything can happen.

Tough one to gauge. Last couple of times the teams met, Cavan won handily enough. Different story now, that was a few years back and both of them have an Ulster win under their belt (after having none for a few years) and are in a semi final with a lot at stake. Think there's a lot of talk about Armaghs forwards, and Cavans defence being strong, as opposed to Armaghs backs and Cavans forwards being weak. Midfield and supply of ball will probably dictate a lot of what happens here. If McKiernan has a big game in the middle, then it could decide things.

Armagh have great forwards, and can easily do damage if they get back. Conversely, Cavan pretty much had to convert the bulk of their chances (which they did very well) to get over the line against Monaghan. Armagh made a lot of hard work against Down even with an extra man, and let Down back into it numerous times before seeing them off.

Still think Cavan playing at a higher level the last few years, and having Mickey Graham on the sideline reading the game and making changes quickly should get Cavan over the line. Time for Cavan to play as favourites. It's all well and good catching out a team like Monaghan when all the talk was about them and they neglected the underdog, they need to follow it up with another performance and start strings games together. They have the players and it has been promised with the talent that has come through, just need to deliver it now. Cavan by a few points

I think cavan have a tiny bit more to offer, but this is going to go right down to the wire too. Armagh were a bit unlucky in division 2 but they had a really good win v fermanagh on their 2nd last day out. they lost to cork on the last day at home, but this result may have bucked them up rather than deflate their season.

2 teams almost identically on the up. Cavan may win this by a short head. It will be a mighty game I have no doubt about this whatsoever.

As much as I would like Cavan to win. I've a feeling that Armagh are going to win this one. Been impressed with Armagh this year they should have been in the hunt for promotion but late scores in a few games put an end to that. Armagh's Achilles heel is there Defence if Cavan are not afraid to have a go at them like they done against monaghan in the first half they have a chance but I think the class in the Armagh forward line will pull them through in the end.

Why isn't the game being shown live by BBC rather than having deferred coverage? They show a turkey shoot live last weekend but not a semi final. Is it do with a clash with RTE's coverage of Clare and Tipperary? Disgrace there is no football on live this weekend.

BBC are a joke here. the arrangement they have for coverage, is that they pay the least amount so they can only show what RTE also show live. Otherwise they can just show deferred coverage. If RTE have no place to show matches live due to other arrangements, then the BBC cannot do so. The BBC needs to get out from under this, pay a little more and get better rights for Ulster matches.

Thanks, I didnt know that. But yet they showed Donegal and Fermanagh on Sunday and Tyrone and Antrim the previous day. Two games that werent televised by RTE. It's a strange set up.

Apologies, got it slightly wrong. That was the case last year, but slightly different this year. See the link to an article here. Sky showed one game live, 4 others are going out live on BBC with 4 games deferred coverage. Two of the live BBC games will simulcast on RTE as well, the BBC did get rights to show 2 games exclusively live (one of which was Donegal Fermanagh last weekend). Still the case that BBC has to ask permission for the 2 exclusive live games. Shouldn't be anything much for them to get the rights for the other 4 games seeing as they have cameras there and show it anyway later in the day.

Cavan will win by 6 points plus. Armagh are a bit over-rated IMO due to the McGeeney factor and the memory of recent great teams they had in Ulster. Cavan look fresh and are more desperate for a final than Armagh.
Expect a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-11 or something like that.

This is going to be a great game, I can sense it. A lot at stake for two underachieving counties, we haven't made the final in 18 years, a terrible record for a football mad county. Hoping we can fix that later.

Sounds like some match. The commentators saying the ref is harsh on Cavan.

Quality wasn't great but it was close.

I'm obviously biased but I don't think I've ever seen a more 1 sided ref.
