Cork V Tipperary

(Oldest Posts First)

I think this game definitely deserves it's own thread. For me, this is a really hard one to call. I'm leaning towards Cork but the trouncing we got from Tipperary back in March has me really worried. It's simple; we have to win this game. The full and center back roles are especially of concern. Big step up for Tim O'Mahoney in the CB role and a real test for him. For Cork to win this, there are 3 key areas they really need to improve on.

1. Higher rate of turnovers - very weak in this dept.
2. Winning their own puck outs
3. Winning dirty ball.

I'm curious to know what other posters think, especially the Tipp lads - what are your predictions for Sunday?

Cork Team should be: Nash, O' Donoghue, E. Cadogan, Cahalane, Joyce, O'Mahony, Coleman, Cooper, Fitzgibbon, Kearney, Lehane, Harnedy,A.Cadogan, Aidan Walsh, Horgan
Forward line is strong..and subs bench better than last year with Robbie O' Flynn, Kingston, Meade as forward backup,
Stephen McDonnell and Darren Browne for backs.
Colm Spillane is a loss through injury.

cork inside backs major liability
cant see much change from last yr hen ye werent good enough
gillane on another day would have that game buried
limk much the better team overall and have pushed on considerably ..have cork?
end of the road looming for some cork and tipp players i feel
feel theres a bounce in sheedys tipp ..how far it can carry them ..not sure
tipp by 4 in cork
ye wont beat limk again this year
think ye have enough for clare and waterford
will 4 points be enough?????

Think cork will have way too much pace for an aging, slow Tipp team in this one. If the full back line for Cork can even hold their own i think they'll win comfortably enough. Cork by 6.

No way would I have Aidan Walsh as a starter, in fact I'd be shocked if he was picked to start. I'd agree with all the other selections but I'd expect Kingston or Meade to get the nod.

5 of the 6 forward positions look settled. The remaining position will be between Walsh, O'Flynn, Meade and Kingston.
I hear Robbie O' Flynn is in form lately.

3 wins from 12 says cork will win this
Key for tipp will be if Brendan Maher is fit enough to come into the half back line and if Cathal barrettt is selected. Prob stating the obvious but whichever full back line can find s way to stop the other full forward line will prob win.
Big question marks over who starts for tipp. Does callanan/forde play at full. Who out of John McGrath, bubbles, Morris, omeara start. Does McCormack come in. Will bonnar be dropped and it's abyones guess who plays midfield. Interesting to see if Browne starts to combat the pace of fitzgibbon

Personally I'll be going in hope rather than anything else. To beat cork in cork will be tough and I don't see it at the minute

They're expecting 25-30k at this. Decent but the GAA put very little marketing into this. Can't help but feel they could do a much better job.

They could have definitely done some marketing. I think it will be about 35,000. Could be a full house with proper marketing.

Totally Agree. The fact that RTE won the contract to show these games they should have been forced to put out more adds for it. I think also part of the problem is most teams are on a media lock down for the last three weeks so the media very quiet. I would love to have seen a Sunday Game football and hurling championship indepth previews over the previous two Sundays with Dalo, Derek McGrath, Loughnane, Tomas Mul, John Mullane etc etc

Anyway roll on Sunday - Cork by 6. But if Tipp do pull it off (which they could do no problem) it will be a huge talking point and will turn Munster on its head as a lot of people have Cork in a Munster final!!

Disappointing Tipp team named. Once again Ronan moved back to centre back having not played there in the league. Baffling. Not really sure what Flynn has to do to nail down the number 4 jersey.
Brendan Maher coming back in is the right decision but despite his injury he's the only one of the 2010 team that hasn't lost a couple of yards of pace. Really surprised that all of the rest have retained their places.
Real potential that our half forward line could be cleaned out. O'Meara has been always been a good performer for tipp but whether he can do damage at wing forward remains to be seen. Callanan hasn't been an option at centre forward since 2008/9 and Bonnar got 3-4 balls in his hand in the whole of the National Hurling League.
Ger browne has been Tipps best underage talent in a number of years and can't get a look in. Paul Maher had an excellent league and should have retained his place.

Teams named on Fri night are often very different to what takes the field on Sunday!

i'm thinking liam sheedy is trying to pull a fast one with cork by naming that team i thin there will be changes to the starting 15 and positional switches....but if thats the 15 tipp are going with i think its going to be a short season for them....

Possibly one or two positional changes but tipp rarely make changes from the 15 named.
Agreed it will be a short summer however if changes aren't made. Sheedy has always been over loyal to north tipp players

Disappointed with the conservatism shown in the Tipp team announcement but as a couple of posters pointed out the actual starting 15 could be very different.

Cork have pace to burn and that Tipp 15 doesn't. Need to give some of the guns a go at it. In my opinion they are good enough.

Tipp were much better. Cork were dependent on Horgan frees and were way off the level needed to compete.
Very accomplished Tipp display, and they scored 2-24 from play against a once again poor Cork defence.

A really good game interesting approach by both teams, Tipp always value goals and that is how they play. But a good open game and PUC looked well with a good crowd in it.
