Championship Team

I hope for the Waterford game we line up with 6 forwards on the pitch. It was disappointing to see one of our most prolific scorers introduced from bench.

Tactics can always be questioned but the results until the Laois game were indicative of progress compared to the last two years. Hopefully Jack and the lads can pick up from this setback and kick on.

Replying To borisdblade:  "Westmeath senior team is getting weaker every year. No disrespect to any of the players, they are all good footballers but collectively not got enough to beat a top 8 team even on their best day. Probably 5 or 6 top quality players short. The current group despite their best efforts are going nowhere fast regardless of who trains them. A manager cant teach a 20something yr old how to kick a point or sidestep a player etc...So it's time the club championship becomes the priority, interest levels in the game MIGHT come back in the county if club championship is run right.
Traditionally we are not a strong gaa county at all, we had one good group of lads for a 10yr period and it has fallen to sh#t since..At the moment there is very little interest toward supporting our county team as evident from the lack of activity on this platform...Something needs to change..."
We have 12 senior clubs, and 12 intermediate clubs plus 5 or 6 standalone junior clubs. That's 30 clubs with panels of between 20 and 30 players. There are upwards of 600 young lads out there waiting to play championship football but can't because of 30 county panellists. How fair is this?? No wonder players don't hang around for the summer and head stateside to play a bit of ball, earn a few bob and see the world. How can we be competitive at county level if we won't even let our clubs be competitive during the summer months??

Replying To Iarmhi04:  "You really are clutching at straws if this is your argument for the teams performance last Sunday but let's break it down for you. The lads played Monaghan 2 weeks before the Laois game so your point about the challenge game is irrelevant. As well as that the lads held double training sessions every week since the start of the year, including during the league when they had games every week and they seemed to get on alright in that without looking tired. So now what's the next excuse?"
Not clutching at straws at all you must be part of the set up if you agree with all this unnecessary staining which is not required. The team looked a tired team on Sunday against laois which happens from all this training if you were there you would have seen this .
As for excuses the manager had enough of them .

Great to see all the acknowledgement on here for the terrific win the minors had 3 days ago. The senior panels seem to be all that matters around here. Plenty of you on here crowing about travelling all over Ireland to watch the seniors. Some of the seniors could take a leaf out of their book having won 2 of the group games and narrowly losing the game against Laois in injury time in Portlaoise, then taking Meath to extra time and beating them in the quarter final. A great bunch of lads and best of luck to them against Dublin in the semi final in 3 week time.

Doesn't specify which championship team Mick. I'll start a new thread for the minors so if that makes you feel better. Were you in the park for it??

Is Luke Loughlin injured ? He was one of the bright spots in the League campaign.

Any one in Mullingar today? Facile win but would like to know if anyone new stood out. Relief to finally get a win in the qualifiers, even if it is against one of the worst sides in the country.

Also, looking at the draw for tomoro, I'm not overly bothered about anyone except Tyrone and Armagh..As we're Divison 3 we get home advantage and I wouldn't be afraid of Mayo in our backyard, nothing to lose! Sligo @ home would be the preferred draw for me tho.

No one new . Tommy mcdaniel had a very good game and is a scoring threat . The win was expected so nothing to get excited about

Tight hamstring from what I heard. He was out on the pitch before the game but not togged. As for Luke Loughlin, I haven't heard if he was injured too or what the situation was.

Removed from the panel again i believe. Should have been removed before the Laois game. If he comes back again while Cooney is in charge then Cooney will be a laughing stock. Only so many time you can put your neck on the line

He lives abroad. Not sure if he's expected to return home anytime soon or is gone long term.

Not to knock Limerick too much but I believe this kind of opposition will do little to further the quality of the team. It's always better to have to step it up to much better teams.
I suppose you can only play what's in front of you...
