Paul Flynn Retires!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Paul Flynn announced his retirement from inter county football today.

A colossal of a player at his best. On of the very best of the last decade.

Thanks for all the memories Paul. Leaving with 6 All Ireland medals in his back pocket, not too shabby..

Also the only Dublin player ever to win 4 All stars in a row. 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014.

Best of luck to him, in a 2 or 3 year spell around 2012-2014 arguably the best footballer in the country

Best of luck to him in his retirement, yes one of the very best and most consistent players we have seen at his position. What a great career he has had. I have heard him interviewed a number of times and he seemed to be a genuinely nice and level headed guy too.

Top 3 wing forwards since the noughties for me have been Dooher, Galvin and Flynn. Paul Flynn hadnt the longetivity as the other 3 at the top of their game but he was the best of the 3 in his prime until the end of 2014.
What a brilliant wing forward and is what any aspiring wing forward should aspire to. He had an enormous work rate and was a lethal forward to add to that.He didnt get the same plaudits as Connolly but Flynn was just an important as him for the Dubs.

Hope he enjoys his retirement

Was the best player in the country from 2011-14. He was a truly great player and seems like a top bloke as well. Best of luck to Paul in his retirement.

Brilliant player, easily one of the best in the country a few years ago, all the best to him in his retirement.

Wow Flynner retired. Didnt see that coming. I didnt think when i saw him down in Cavan for our last league i would be watching his last appearance.

Really sad news, but sounds like a back injury took his toll, still hes one of the first to retire of the stars of the Gilroy/Gavin teams that will always have a special place within Dublin GAA history.

Full pelt he was the best and one of the most complete half forwards in the country, unmarkable at times, super fielder of a ball and capable of some sublime points, he chipped in more then once with some critical scores that changed the tide and momentum of games.

Despite his powers maybe being on the wane in the last 2 or 3 seasons he was an absolute leader as well and always showed and drove the team forward, its no mistake he was called on often at critical moments in big games. What is really important to acknowledge is that he sacrificed his own games for the team so many times, his role changed from 2014 onwards following the Donegal semi and really became such a powerful workhouse for the system often doing the dirty defensive work to let others shine, critical to Dublins silverware in those years playing that role.

Wish him all the every best in his retirement and his work in the GPA. He owes Dublin nothing and part of the greatest Dublin team of all the time. We look to him as one of our own.

Legend,

Gur raibh mile maith agat Big man.

Legend. At his peak from 2012 had everything a wing forward needs.

Absolutely awesome player and a linchpin in our success in recent times. I believer the retirement announcement has come on the back of Gavin trimming the squad last weekend coming up to Championship and Flynn was informed he wouldn't be featuring much come the summer. If true it is fairly cut throat of Jim but true to form of showing absolutely no sentiment over the years to anyone. It also makes no sense for Flynn to walk away 4 weeks away from a Leinster campaign. The chance to be part of five in a row would mean he'd have struggled on despite his back problems.

Best of luck to Paul in the next chapter of his life and he can look back on many days of success in blue and has a medal haul to be envied. Dublin legend.

A player who will be classed as absolutely elite. As some have said, he was arguably the best player in the country for a few years.
Despite his recent injuries, he actually performed very well in the limited game time he got in the last couple of years. He kicked scores in all of the Super 8 games last year as well as the semi final.
He'd still do a serious job for most counties, if injury allowed.

I would say he was the best wing forward in the country from 2011 to 2017 . He had an incredible level of consistency . Forget what year it was but he had a few bad games by his high standards but delivered when it mattered most in the All Ireland final .

An excellent player and always came across very well too. I'll never forget his performance in the 2014 semi final against us, particularly in the first half. He was hammering over points from all sorts of ridiculous angles and distances that day. He can certainly look back on his career with few regrets. 6 All Ireland medals, 4 All Stars and God knows how many Leinsters. Maith thú Pól!
