Sky 2019 Coverage

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see sky have revealed their lineup and games.

I see they will have exclusive rights to games. I have not nor will not subscribe to sky. It is on a point of principle.

I note at the photo shoot there were 13 members of sky gaa team there. 12 men and 1 woman.!!!!

Do not think I will miss much by not having sky

I cringe at the very thought of it, 12 men and 12 women I'd still cringe.

What principle?

Also I haven't seen Sky's photo shoot but lets say their team does consist of 12 men and 1 woman, so what? Maybe they were the best 13 people for the job, what does their sex organs have to do with anything?

Anyway if you want to go full on snowflake, just remember that you're not allowed to 'assume gender' these days. Who said there were 12 men and 1 women, by modern standards there could easily 57 different genders among those 13 individuals :-)

Looks to me like you "see" a lot of things dude.

I have an observation of my own, from what I can see, you have a massive chip on your shoulder RE the sky deal

My advice ? Its their third year of showing Gaelic games and whether they continue to show live games in the years to come time will tell, but for now, stop actively looking for reasons to have a go at their coverage, nobody is forcing you to watch which is quite evident by your resistance to subscribe to sky, and that's fine, each to their own, but if you don't subscribe or watch games on sky, you're hardly in a position to criticise.

and just for the record, The dig at lack of women on the Sky panel is a low blow, Rachel Wyse will host in the same way Joanne Cantwell will on RTE, and on both RTE & Sky, the men's senior games in football and hurling will almost always have a panel of men alongside the host to discuss the live games.

If you want to have a dig at sky based on their coverage, maybe get yourself into a position of watching the games and discuss the pros and cons of their coverage in terms of analysis (which is arguably streets ahead of RTE, youd know that if you watched on sky), camera work, that kind of thing, but to have a go at their panel to suit your agenda when there isn't exactly a mass amount of v*****'s sitting alongside Joanne Cantwell for live mens SFC games makes your argument extremely weak.

Whether you like either/or RTE or Sky at least you have a choice to get Sky Sports. Your €160 licence fee goes to RTE. I really like RTE radio sports coverage and their GAA isn't as top counties centred as RTE TV. I got the Now TV for a day before for a match before and it's worth considering. I think Kieran Donaghy will be a very good analyst and co-commentator plus he's got a sense of humour. Fair play to Sky.

The deal was signed with the GAA. Women's football does not exist in the GAA so why include somebody on the analysis panel that has by definition has no involvement in the sport? There is a crossover on hurling/camogie and that's fair enough for analysis purposes, but the situation in football is clear-cut.
Having DIck Clerkin there is enough misplaced tokenism for me.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank sky for broadcasting these extra games that we wouldn't get a chance to see on TV without them.

Thank you Sky

Brilliant response. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head who doesn't want to get sky. Personally I am looking forward to their great games.

They're not extra games.

Sky took the package that TV3 (now Virgin Media) had previously and were bidding for against Sky.

They're not extra games that Sky have magically decided to broadcast.

They were going to be broadcast anyway.

Them being on Sky just means that no one watches. That's the only difference.

Plenty of people watches them. Stop been such a skinflint and get sky. The everything for nothing brigade is well and alive in Ireland.

What has your 'everything for nothing brigade' got to do with me pointing out that both you and another poster were incorrect when saying that Sky were showing all these extra games that would not be shown otherwise?

You're both wrong on that count. I'm just pointing out your error, no need to be a special snowflake about it.

Personally, I've had Sky in the past and may have again in the future.

What is the actual viewership figure for Sky though? Not sure its quite nobody watching. I have found NOW TV to be a great job. Watched two games last year using it.

Is the sky sports moaning still going on? Get over it, Sky has every right as any other channel to broadcast the game, most rugby games is on ppv channels, don't hear them moaning about it, I personally think sky sports present there matches better, RTE'S football pundits are too negative

It a welcome respite for me and a quick switch over if i see Pat Spillane on the panel on RTE.

I can assume what I want.

Re gender - it seems the gender is important as there is 12 men.

Thank you for your comment.

Your argument does not make sense. Just because I do not watch sky does not mean I cannot have an opinion on sky coverage.

I think the games should be free to air.

Tg4 tends to have more women involved in gaa coverage which seems to be positive.
