Monaghan Vs Cavan

Huge one for both teams. Loser is more or less relegated in my opinion.

How does everyone see this going?

Having seen both teams lately I'd say Monaghan to win by 2/3 points.

Also seen both teams lately. Monaghan were very poor against us but they were much improved against a decent Kerry team. I'd be very confident the Farney will prevail here with plenty to spare.

Cavan hot favourites here the coming team. We are on the way down hopefully we can give them a good game of it.

May 18th is the Cavan game that counts. Roscommon will be playing a Kerry team already in league final the following week. Highly unlikely either Mon or Cavan will be playing Div 1 next season.

Every Monaghan supporter would gladly go to Div 2 and make an Ulster Final again ... after two terrible semi defeats. Cavan improving for sure. If Mon do not get the their injured players back ... 4 in particular ... May 18th could be very very tricky. And even with them back it will be difficult. We have beaten Cavan by a combined 3 points (I think) in last three recent Ulster championship games.

Cant see past Monaghan in this one, mind you they've slipped up a lot since beating us so I won't write Cavan off completely.

Ah tongue firmly in cheek by myself. Will be a properly contested derby with hardly a kick of a ball in it. Even if we were flying which we ain't still be v tight.

I know well you were :) it probably will be as tight as a ducks backside, this match could go anyway and both counties will be hoping for rossies to lose also.

Monaghan to win with a few points to spare. Roscommon and Galway to draw.
Dubs will beat Tyrone as per the norm. Kerry will beat Mayo.

'I have a feeling Dublin will drop points this year, at least early in the league.
Roscommon and Cavan clearly favourites to be relegated but we could surprise a few and survive. The monaghan match will be pivotal. Losers of that one to join Roscommon

My early season prediction is coming through, despite the howls from Monaghan lads at the time!

Going onto this one, Cavan are exactly where they could have expected to be whereas Monaghan look a bit shell-shocked at the minute. They were thinking about winning the league before it started and that talk ramped up after beating the Dubs. I think that will give us a mental advantage.

Monaghan have not become a bad team overnight but standards have definitely slipped compared to other years. Cavan are losing but improving- despite the trimming received from Tyrone. That could have a galvanising effect. Finding enough scores is still the problem but against Monaghan the the game will be about winning physical contests and keeping the head.

It all points to a dirty old battle on a Saturday afternoon in Clones. Expect Cavan to outnumber Monaghan in the stands and outfight them on the pitch. A brutal one-point win in a low scoring game will do just fine!

Madge King the mystic!
Glad to hear that the Cavan support will travel to Clones, as I understand that there was only a handful of blue in Healy Park, which I am sure must have been tough for the tram, considering they had a good win the previous week - might go in some way to explain why it is hard to attract & retain players to the panel. Fickle support & all that. Anyway a warm welcome awaits you all in Clones , as always.

I think the Monaghan v Cavan game will go the same way as most the important games between the sides recently. Cavan will try really hard but their lack of scoring will prove their undoing.

The last 3 big games mc manus has been the difference when game was in the balance. Geroid mc Kiernan always went missing, mackey runs out of steam and Mc veety doesn't seem to step up when needed.

Gearoid was good last time we met in the league. And if you remember, he was fouled right in front of the posts in the last minute with the game level but no free was given.

Monaghan to win this for me. I think the defeat by Tyrone has resigned Cavan to Div 2.

Expecting a big performance from Monaghan, the weeks rest will have helped them prepare.

1-13 to 0-10

Excuse for what?

1. It ended in a draw

2. I wasn't arguing the result, I was talking about 1 player's performance
