Noelle Healy Transfer

Replying To wishfulthinkin:  "forcing young people to play for a team they don't want to play for or travel huge distances to play for that team just to satisfy a few people that don't have a pub or post office to hang around in isn't the way to go. Players will just quit playing and find something else to do. Wouldn't it be better to keep them in the GAA community wherever they decide to play/live/work."
What about the half decent players at the big clubs that'll miss out playing football because of these fellas from small clubs looking for a bit of glory ? Parrish rule is there for a reason it's to keep football alive and small villages alive.

Replying To wishfulthinkin:  "Most county's don't have divisional teams so not really an argument for players to stay at clubs that they don't want to be at or is inconvenient to be at or that isn't pushing them on to a greater level"
I am suggesting more counties set up divisional teams for senior championship

That's a great idea, we do it here in Kerry and it works well, if a fella is good enough he'l shine for his division and won't get over looked by the county.

after watching that documentary on TG4 im GLAD I play for a wee club and not somewhere of the enormity of Kilmacud Crokes, sure Id never get a look in at the first team
I feel sorry for players in huge clubs, sure youd be anonymous among the masses
Ask yourself why people feel pressured to move from the small club to the big club ? and don't blame the players
I remember Senan Connell left Plunketts for Na Fianna and Senan grew up literally feet from the Plunketts clubhouse to travel miles across the city to a senior club as playing intermediate would likely have meant being overlooked by the county. So its not always the players fault, its the pressure they feel under to move or be overlooked !

Replying To Kurt_Angle:  "I don't think that's a fair example. PC won several Dublin senior titles with Thomas Davis and played in the AI club final with them. He transferred due to a falling out with his club and wanted to continue playing at a high level, not for "glory hunting" purposes. I don't think many people (apart from TD fans, maybe) would have begrudged him the move. The saga around the Eamonn Fennell transfer is a much better example."
Very fair example, he could have gone to St Marks in Tallaght, Templeouge/Synge Street, St Marys in Saggart all closer than Kilmacud Crokes in Stillorgan.

This is the best solution I feel. To me the GAA is about representing your parish. Not moving to the club that will give you glory with strangers. 1 big win with your home parish would always mean so much more. The Kerry solution gives the best of both worlds

Replying To wishfulthinkin:  "Surely Sean Johnston is a perfect example. He wanted to test himself at the highest level which for him was county level..so he transferred clubs to allow this be possible once he proved himself to be at the appropriate level in his new club/county...not glory hunting"
You think Kildare have a bigger football tradition than Cavan. Less All Irelands and provincial titles. He left the biggest club in Cavan to join St Kevins....

She's an Anaesthesist , so yeah, may be that its a part time move due to work rather that long term.

Not sure that is very accurate from a Dubln point of view, Fingallians, Cuala, Naomh Mearnog, Whitehall Comcilles, Templouge Synge Street all played in Div 2, essentially intermediate, last year and had representatives on the Dublin Senior All Ireland winning panel.

Cluxton plays for Parnells who will be there next year.

On another point you often hear of Dublin Gaa representatives not having to travel etc for intercounty commitments, Noelle i assume will have to travel, Jack McCaffery also a Doctor i believe has been working in Drogheda and Ciaran Kilkenny i believe was doing some work up in Donegal for a time.

yes, because he was told he wasn't required for cavan county team by that manager. He felt he could still perform at that level so transferred in order to see if he could. He subsequently made the Kildare county team and the Cavan county team under different management so if he hadn't moved clubs he would have been performing at a level below his ability. People can't give out about people moving for glory and then give out about Johnston moving to better himself, not for glory

Ya didn't Ciaran Kilkenny cycle to his grandmothers house in portlaoise after losing a game one evening.

Would playing and training with better players not push on the half decent players and make them better...decent even?! So your saying Noelle should have to travel from Cork to Dublin to play club football just to accommodate a half decent player in the club she's moving to? What about the club she's leaving...won't that leave the door open for a half decent player or are you only worried about the one in the new club?

How will that help Noelle Healy? (which is what the thread is about) You'd still want her to travel from cork to dublin to play divisional football as well as club football and county football? Bit harsh

Absolute nonsense! Why would a current All Star and standout player in the Dublin senior team move to:

i) An team playing intermediate football at the time - St Mark's
ii) A team in AFL division 2 at the time - St Mary's
iii) And my personal favourite, a team that didn't exist at the time - TSS

when he could move to one of the county's stronger teams at the time and continue playing at a high level? (P.S. You could have suggested Ballyboden, who are closer than any of your suggestions to Thomas Davis's ground, and were Dublin champions a couple of years previous, though that mightn't have suited your argument). Your original argument suggested PC did something untoward by moving to KC and held it up as an example of something unsavoury (I notice you didn't retract this suggestion, even when advised the grounds on which PC made his move) . I'm merely pointing out the flaws in your argument.

Replying To Dubh_linn:  "Wasn't Paul Galvin playing with Finuge and went to Parnells and now I think he's going back to Finuge.
Perhaps someone could confirm if this is the case but just seems odd if true.
S.Johnson may have done something similar."
He went to Kilmacud to play hurling and then went to Oliver Plunkett's and then back to Finuge. I'm pretty sure the original move to KC was due to work commitments and I assume the move to OP was for similar reasons. Was a bit out of the blue but makes sense if work brought him to Dublin and he wanted to continue playing gaelic games at a high level.

Of course I am not saying that she should of course be given her transfer to Cork. But no to the current club all Ireland champions. Imagine the teams trying to challenge in cork and they see the champions sign a Dublin all Ireland winning player. Surely any other senior team in the county would have been fairer

Don't think people have an issue with Noelle making the transfer, think they are just saying of all the teams she picks its the All Ireland champions she decides to join. No one on here I believe has any issues with players transferring to a club where they are now living/working, I did it myself back in the 90's. The issue people have with transfers is where someone moves to a club they have absolutely no affiliation with, do not live/work near that club. In a lot of this situations people will question if there were enticements offered in order for player to join a certain club. I understand about players from smaller clubs who may want to join a better team but the whole ethos of the GAA is based on playing for your local team. I do believe if someone has had a falling out with their local club I believe there should be some some of resolutions committee that allows them to move to a bordering club if they so wish.

He was not the first player to ever fall out with his club. Everybody knows the big clubs in Dublin actively recruit players. A number of high profile players approached over the years. Always amazed people in Dublin think it is a miracle when a county player turns up on their team....it is a road to nowhere.

Right , so change of clubs within Dublin aswell.
As far as I know he's heading back down to Kerry now to play. He must have wanted a few Dublin club jerseys for the collection ;D
Just goes to show how some people would have no idea how difficult it can be to move around the city.
