Also thought he was shaky enough in the Leinster in 2011, was imperious coming out of Leinster mind.

I suppose my innital point though was i wouldnt be judging a few of the newbies on a shaky start.

Actually when you go back to the game were Kerry gave us hiding in 2009, its interesting to count the amount of medals the lads who have played in that team have one since, goes to show.

Looks a good one.

Be interesting to see him, start a game, players with a bit pace always seem to do well coming on against tired legs to be fair to him he got a fair chunk of minutes and caused havoc, to be fair to Dublin they always give you a chance to play as well and he will come up against more blanket defenses then Dublin.

But would be great for Monagahan to have another forward of the class he showed yesterday.

Question to the Monagahan lads.

You must be in with a more then a fair shout in the league now not every tram is going to take two points of Dublin, that is a massive shot in the arm. Do you fancy going full pelt for it?

Would love to see them win it personally.

The big winner yesterday was how effective the offensive mark can be. Monaghan obviously worked on this and it proved so effective. When a team are chasing a game like Dublin were yesterday they were always going to push men on, so on the counter, their defence becomes far more partial to one on ones, this is where the offensive mark is worth its weight in gold.
Ping a long ball forward, if its caught, it can slow the game down as the kick, regardless of where it goes, will break that other teams momentum. It offers teams far more of a reason to play long ball and less handpassing.
Dublin need to work on this as both upfront or at the back they didn't make enough out of it.
I take the point that Dublin were probably a bit rusty but they offered very little going forward 2nd half. Its exactly what they want for this time of year though, great experience for the hard games that will be coming for them this year.
Monaghan were well worth their win, showed terrific resilience and belief. They had a bunch of new lads starting yesterday and they didn't sit back in awe of Dublin at any stage. Superb team
Very enjoyable game for this time of the season all the same. Again the league shows why a tiered competition is a better product than the current format of the championship. Hopefully the Super 8's will offer something better this year.

We have a tough draw in the league this year Mayo, Kerry, Tyrone and Roscommon away to come. I would imagine that because of this we will be targeting each game to ensure safety in the division first. There are only 3 titles available, (one of which has already been allocated :) ). Winning the League has never done anyone any harm and we also have a club system in place to help cater for the county team during the summer, so surely we will be going for it, but safety first is the immediate priority. There are no weak teams in this division

Yeah the offensive mark was interesting.

If you can get men back behind the ball and then soak up the pressure the offensive mark could be used effectively to make your counter attacks more potent.

Yesterday, Dublin really suffered by not having enough men back behind the ball meaning Monaghan had space to kick into.

It'll be an interesting rule to follow nonetheless.

I would not say potential- it was the best piece of skill I have over a long period and in difficult conditions. He laid off for the other goal (something other of the forwards were slow to do last year). He would be a great addition to any team judging by his fielding.

It's a pity that we won't see the offensive mark or the sin bin being implemented in the Championship.. I can't see why we have to wait another year before this happens

In fairness, that was his debut and most people outside the county never heard of him. He'll be a name who the opposition are looking at now so he won't have the element of surprise anymore. Also, there's a big difference between that game and a big game in the middle of summer - though I think he's the type of player who will thrive on the harder pitches with his pace.

But yeah, he looks like he could be a big player for us. The most pleasing thing about his goal for me was that when he won his mark, he turned and went straight for goal. Many others would have taken the handy point from the free, or even fisted over when one on one with the keeper. But O'Hanlon only had goal on his mind, and he took it well. A real direct player like him is what we need in our attack.

Well, in 2018 club games, the opposition figured him out as the season progressed. The solution was to double and, sometimes, triple mark him. And even at that, he could still field on the outside and wriggle his way past multiple defenders to score.

It will be very different at inter-county level, of course, but I'm looking forward to a bit of that in the year ahead.

I don't know Farney.

I'm not sold yet on the advanced mark to be honest. I think it's better to see how it shapes up for an entire league campaign before judging it.

If it works out, I think the 2020 Championship is time enough.
