Hand Pass Rule Common Sense Prevails

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Decision to not proceed with it for the NFL is the right one IMO. Was at both Meath and Westmeath games at Parnell and it was farcical hearing the players shouting at each it other to kick pass and shoot for fear of taking the extra handpass. You could almost hear them counting aloud. A rethink needed.

Was ridiculous that was even trialled as clearly not going to work.

Games needs to become more attacking, simple rule like when enter opposition half with ball cant pass into own half, easy to monitor and encourage player to either talk man on or move ball forward.

The hand pass needs to be limited. The game is football after all

How it is refereed and officiated is the problem

Delighted it's been scrapped. The biggest issue out of today is the 23 individuals who voted to keep it. 25 votes to 23. This is a very serious issue. The accountability motion by the CPA, being voted down has led to 23 delegates voting what ever way the liked. The democracy of the GAA is broken at all levels.

disgraceful decision. Was at o Byrne final last night and among most supporters there was a positive reaction to hand pass rule. Of course players don't want it, they want the lazy option of handpassing. Who runs the GAA, it seems it's the players and the managers . The GAA should do the honourable thing now and just rename it handball mor..and if people want to watch such rubbish , so be it. A black day for lovers of Gaelic football.

Lol another lad who thinks it's a simple game bla bla bla. It isn't the officials, it was a daft rule that created more blanket defences.

the 25 who voted to abolish this result should be ashamed of themselves. this would have transformed the game in the long term..like any new skill subset it would have taken time to internalize but opportunity has been thrown away. it would to difficult to guess what counties they cam from

I largely agree with you, to trial properly should have been left in for the League. Mistake was to bring too many changes in together.

The trial hadn't started and some prominent managers were on a rant about how it wouldn't work so never had a chance. Not their place to mouth off, already too many of those managers have over engaged in negative tactics to the detriment of the game.

Football the winner here really, fair play to them for trying something and no real harm done, at least now we know.

Just to confirm if you are not happy with the handpass rule being abolished you know nothing about the game of football.

Tomas o se doesn't agree with the handpass rule being abolished. While I actually like O Se and whelan I'd have to back the Galway football manager when he says a small number of analysts are given a lot of power in terms of how the game is play. Why do the rte ones have so much say and of they dislike football so much why do they watch it

Can't agree more was reading Martin Breheny this morning and they thought it would get the green light..the big concern is how was the vote so tight when there was overall opposition to it..I fear a lot of promises and undertable deals and lobbying was done to try and push this rule through. It's because of blanket defences that has us in this position with handpassing. Watching the video of the Derry match in which Ciaran branigan was reffing should have been enough to bin this ludicrous rule.

Let us wait and see what happens in the league. If the hand passing is too much it (3 handpasses) can be brought back.

Terrible decision. It was doomed before it started and it wasnt given a fair chance. I thought the general feeling was that the game needed some big changes?

Changes are needed but they brought too many in together. A lot of matches resemble a bad game of basketball at this stage, it's dreadful. The problem is the blanket defence rather than hand passing. I can't think of anything that would solve that issue.

It's interesting you say football is the winner here when we're going to be having about 400 hand passes now in every game and about 40-50 kick passes.

You clearly didn't see the many videos trending of referees and their absolute ineptitude to count 3 consecutive passes. Then again, Flaker you probably struggled.
