I doubt it but let's agree to disagree. Only my opinion. I rarely notice big crowds at Dublin league games at HQ in the context of the stadium size.

The last time Dublin played Mayo in the league at HQ (2017) it attracted nearly 35k.

Admittedly there was also the Dubs taking on Waterford in the hurling beforehand, but it's reasonably safe to say most were there for the football.

No disagreement with that figure but I would be very confident in thinking that if ye played Dublin on essentially a stand alone fixture (the other two matches last Sat were not of the scale of the hurling 2 yrs ago) it would struggle to break 20k. Two reasons being gap bigger now between Dubs and the rest and a sense of monotony has set in and secondly ye are back with the pack I.e. not no. 2 anymore. Just my opinion as I said and no reflection on your support per se.

Well, this fixture takes place again in two weeks, so we can see then.

Maybe Dublin fans are getting bored? The fall in Leinster championship attendances is stark

Absolutely. Not directed at ye necessarily. I don't think anyone questions the large support ye enjoy for this particular Mayo team even as opposed to previous Mayo teams. Again if any county dominated like the Dubs I sense attendances would fall pro rata.

I see empty seats at the FA cup games on TV. Eg Millwall V Everton. I see empty seats at the Guinness pro 14 matches, mainly in Wales and Scotland. I see empty seats at League of Ireland games. Yet, the empty seats at GAA Allianz league matches are-wait for it- shocker!!! LOL
What is it about Irish people that they must whinge about everything? Slán

Tyrone twitter said 10,500 at Roscommon v Tyrone. Not sure how accurate that was.

Division 1 attendances very strong but 1200 at Clare v Cork in Div 2 is awfully poor. How many would be at the same fixture in Hurling?
Any county that has a decent hurling team seems to have weak football attendances.

It is impressive that that many travelled and paid considering the inclement weather.

If the leagues started in Mid Feb there would be a better chance of good weather and better attendances.

Cork weren't following their team when they were getting to and winning AI finals. They just don't like football down there and are trying to kill it outright by neglect! They say it'll take them just 5 years!

Definitely not 10,500..don't know where Rte got that but I'd say 6000 at the most.

It's hard to explain how little following the county team has in Cork. It is embarrassing when you get the likes of Monaghan travelling the length of the country and out numbering you.

The media are shouting that Gaelic Football isn't worth watching for years. We really seem to have take it on board down here. I often wonder could something have been done if they had brought in a good PR firm when the team was going well. Pay them a base fee and a percentage of the gate as commission. 10% of every attendee over 3k, 20% of every attendee above 4k etc..

Munster rugby play second string teams by and large in Cork and generally fill Musgrave which holds 8k. That is brilliant marketing. Those games are poor fare generally. Munster tend to run away with them and the good competitive games where the first team play are in Thomond.

No marketing team in the world could draw a crowd but when the team comes good again and it will (due to the size of the county if nothing else) the county board should do something to foster some bit of a bond between the Cork sporting public and their footballers.

Cork are a great GAA county. It is good that you have a pitch in Pairc Ui Rinn. Don't let the negativity get Cork GAA down. Sooner or later you will start winning again. It will be a great summer for Cork.

Agree fully with this. It is a conundrum. I think though population aside football tends to suffer more in dual counties than hurling where both codes have a reasonable weighting because hurling is seen as a better spectacle. Counties with a very dominant code or one code counties would not have this in fairness. But yes you would think in Cork there should be enough base support even when the team is not going well like presently.

Football suffers because hurling is better. I know a lot of people from Cork. They'll watch and support the footballers from their couch but they'll actually go to the hurling. With how uncompetitive the football is now vs the hurling especially in Munster the sport has zero % chance of gaining fanfare.

all you need is a good bandwagon to get going and football will be drawing big crowds again..championship just very flat last year...

the team won the all ireland not so long ago and were competing almost every year for one for a while there and they got poor support for the most part...
