2019 Attendances

You would wonder why the Munster final wasnt played in PUC in all honesty, given everything.

Its great to see Hurling rising attendances, its does nothing to sway the move toward a two tier football championship in all honesty.

Leinster hurling is the most competitive competition across both codes where as munster hurling has been the least competitive given the average winning margin. If the munster final was not in limerick the crowd would have been much smaller

Limerick have a home and away agreement with Tipperary. Tipperary are not noted fro their philanthropy.

They have a home/away agreement. If the final was in Thurles this year it would have sold out. The dead rubber fixture between these teams two weeks prior had over 39k at it. Munster hurling crowds are huge at the minute.

That would be this year. Can ye keep it up in the coming years? And even though Galway play in the Leinster championship, they are not Leinster hurlers.

In fairness a certain Tipp man was fond of the auld grocery & painter philanthropy, he like to receive but not donate.

The semi final hurling attendances could be broken this year. I'd imagine Wexford and Limerick will bring 40k to their respective semi finals. If Cork beat Kilkenny they'll bring the bandwagon too. Tipp/Dublin winner will bring less but should bring a big crowd regardless.

I wouldn't be surprised if both are over 70k and one might even hit the 80k mark. Anyone know the record for the semi finals?

RTE had the Portlaoise double-header attendance at 12,000.

Huge difference between Kilkenny and Cork winning their semi, Cork could bring 35k easily, Kilkenny circa 12k probly

There was 74,000 at the Limerick V Cork semi final last year.
Not sure if it was a record but it must be very close.
Double header semis in the 80's and early 90's had attendances of less than 30k.
It would be something like Munster V Antrim, Galway V Leinster rotated year on year.

44k for a hurling quarter final double header at Croke Park yesterday, you got to say that's poor. Especially considering Cork vs Kilkenny was one of the matches on offer. I'm guessing ticket prices were around €40, not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. I got admit I was a bit disappointed to see the lack of attention given to this since so many were concerned about attendances at other games over the weekend. I was expecting bigger when you get to this stage of the championship. Cork arguably had the biggest support there but even at that I thought it was small considering they're famously such great followers of their hurling team.
A full house in Killarney yesterday and Mayo brought a big support with them. Considering that's a longer drive than anyone from any of the 4 participating counties in the hurling yesterday you'd have to ask the question, why was the support pretty weak?

Great crowd and atmosphere in Killarney. Huge Mayo traveling support yet again....less people in Croke Park against two counties with the biggest populations.

No surprise there. Kerry show up in big numbers at home, Mayo support is unreal, Dubs are just getting bored or cake walks and our boys, the Cork footballers are the great unloved. If we caused the shock of all shocks and beat the Dubs would we get 5,000 fans up to Croke Park for next Saturdays game? I doubt it. Same when were were real contenders 10 years ago. I'll never understand it.

A big drop in attendance figures for that fixture as just 6 years ago in Croke park Cork v Dublin attracted 70K.

The quarter finals should never have been in Croker. Cork vs Kilkenny in Thurles by itself could have attracted 35/40k. Tipp vs Laois in KK 20k+. A decision made to accommodate the Dublin hurlers who they thought would win. Joke decision.

Bob Dylan and Neil young were in nowlan park Sunday so that was out of the equation

Fair enough. Next best I can think of is a toss for home advantage between Tipp and Laois.
