Jersey Prices

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

During the last week, with the release of new jerseys for both Mayo and Dublin. Oneills have jacked up the price from €60 to €70 on all adult jerseys in their online store. The Current Monaghan jersey was available for €60 during the championship and it has also rised to €70.

Obviously infaltion does happen and the costs of producing a jersey may go up for O'Neills, but the major gripe I have is the same jersey has incresed from £45 in their northern site to £48. On the current exchange rate it comes in at just under €55.

The southern gaels are being fleeced for the tune of 15 quid of jerseys compared to our northern neighbours. Surely to god the gaa must use their lobbying power to ask O'Neills to redress the current discrimiation to southern gaels..

I noticed that too, the Dublin jersey this year was €65 And new one is €70. That said if you can get to oneills on the long mile road there is usually a slight reduction on all current headwear compared to online. The limerick jersey was on €52 There the week leading up to the hurling final. It is a lot of money but when you compare GAA jerseys to soccer jerseys there are streets ahead in terms of quality, plus oneills are also manufactured in ireland.

The O'Neills shops in Walkinstown and Strabane are your best places to go if you can get to them.

Can't agree two different economies , for example Sunday pay in retail is still a thing in retail down south but isn't in the north , cost rates in stores are massively different as is the living wage , that said I do agree jersey is expensive

It's more the price difference. The fact there is a €15 difference between buying a jersey in Dundalk and Newry.

Its a blatent campaign to over change the customer in the 26 counties.

O Neills products have always been over-priced, mostly cause theres no competition. Jersey is more expensive than soccer jerseys its ridiculous.
Club got gear from Adidas and it was a good bit cheaper than O Neills

I worked in retail for 2 years and never got a cent extra for Sunday's, it was just seen as another normal day, a lot of places are the same.

Don't buy it online if you can get to the o'neills shop in walkinstown jersey and other gear is cheaper.

This is on the oneills website so Sunday retail has nothing to do with this shop sales. Shops open 12-6 in the south and 1-6 in the north.

That saying the nationalist community in the north are extremely strong supporters of Oneills and per population, oneills would have larger quantity of sales in the north compared to the south.

€70 for a jersey are they having a laugh? it probably costs about €10 to make them. The older jersey was much nicer the ones nowadays look like soccer jerseys.

70 euro is too expensive for a jersey. I have seen on Facebook different companies who will design you the same jersey for a third of that price.

i mean, why are does it matter that they look like soccer jerseys ??

a jersey is a jersey, not sure how they look like soccer jerseys anyway but even if they do you say it as if its a problem

it definitely doesnt cost 10 euro to make a jersey anyways.

I find it funny how lads give out about gaa jerseys "looking like soccer jerseys" as if this is an inherently bad thing, to be avoided.

From the 1880s until the 1960s/70s, GAA and soccer jerseys were pretty much identical. Excluding the obvious stripes /hoops /slashes that were part of core look for each Jersey, they had the same (lack of) designs, the same materials etc.

Kildare have just finished their third season with the same jersey (making a new one very likely) and that jersey is now at its fourth different price point. If there is a new Kildare jersey in the pipeline, charging €70 now for the current one is so unfair.

It could also be that the jersey north of the border is not the same as the real jerseys. Due to copyright, O'Neills can only sell 2 stripe shirts in the north and Uk.

Its the same jersey three stripes. The Monaghan jerseys in my house all purchase up the north and exact same as one purchased south of the border.

I do agree with the strips being a copyright issue, as all training gear has two stripes instead of the three down south.

If you buy a jersey in Strabane it has the 3 stripes.

The copyright issue only applies outside of Ireland.

its funny how despite all the extra competition that has come to the market in the last number of years, none of them have managed top really make an impact at inter county level, a few years ago it looked like Gaelic Gear would, but a lot of counties have now gone back to O'Neills
