Kieran Donaghy retires

http://www.kerrygaa.ie/news_detail/10043567/ Can't even imagine Kerry football without our Fear Ard, the last link with our great team of the 2000s too. Why oh why do all good things have to end, I thought he would go on forever... What a legend, what a player, what a man - a Rockie to the core and one of the finest servants to wear the famous green and gold and above all, a fighter to the end. God be good to you Kieran, you King in a Kingdom of Kings :(

An absolute Kerry legend I'd imagine.

Kerry have produced countless wonderful players over the years that were technically more gifted then Donaghy but there weren't many that made the impact that Kieran made. He was the main man in 3 winning All-Ireland Finals for Kerry. 2006,2007 and 2014. How many players can say that?

He was tough on the pitch but always seemed to enjoy the battle and came across very well off the field. If anyone hasn't read his book I'd highly recommend it and I hate most GAA Autobiographies.

Well done on a wonderful career and best of luck to one of my favourite non Dub players.

A truly brilliant player and will be remembered as an all time great. Funnily enough I always feared Donaghy more than Gooch when facing Kerry. Best of luck to him in his retirement.

Totally over rated footballer.

Put the right marker on him he was always kept quiet.

Seemed like a gangly and ackward player who wasn't very nice to look at.

Anyway I need to go back into an important meeting here.

The very best of luck to him.

Im glad he did another a year, it would have been disappointing to end it the way the semi against Mayo went for him.

That knock down to young Cliffard against Mongahan may have been more symbolic then we thought at the time.

The very best to him in his retirement a very enviable career for many a football player.

think he was very good myself but opinions are subjective and everyone has one and it can't be right or wrong.

what I will say is, you could have taken time out of your meeting to wish the dude luck in his retirement. He was a huge part of a very good kerry team and was part of days you'll remember for the rest of your life as a Tyrone football fan even if he was on the losing side on some of those days.

I've met kieran once or twice and a more gentlemanly figure you could not have met. he put years of his life into a game that you get no dough to play and has only increased in terms of work load and commitment and like every single player should be respected for that. He achieved in his playing career more than most of us posting on here has put together so I think the least you could do is not say anything if your contribution there is all you've to offer.

hope the weather in miami is good and your meeting goes well for you.

peace.

Best of luck Star.

One of my first memories of croke park was watching him field a high ball under the hogan and think wow i want to be like him but sadly the height never materialised at a mere 5'11.

When people think of Kerry football in years to come he will definitely be spoke about in the same breath as some of the greats. And echoing what someone else said his book is a must read for people into sports autobiographies.

Enjoy retirement

Awesome footballer. When he and the Gooch were in their prime they were something.

He always seemed to want to referee games as well as play in them

Seemed to spend more time mouthing at referees than playing ball during his time on the pitch. A very good full forward, not sure that always equates to a great footballer, and one of the last remaining bustling no. 14s in the game. They've almost had their day now with blanket defences smothering the traditional 14 v 3 aerial battles.

I heard some of his interviews over the years and he sounded like an absolute gentleman with plenty of character. On the field of play there's no denying the huge impact he made for Kerry and his club. The purists on here often complain about certain Ulster counties employing dark arts in gaelic football but for me Donaghy was the worst offender in the country by a mile. I sincerely wish him all the best in his retirement and the biggest compliment I can pay him is I'm glad to see the back of him.

I never saw Kieran put his fingers in someone's eyes or bite spit or stamp or choke anyone on the pitch, so I'd say he wasnt too bad.

You should ask Noel O'Leary. Is it true that Kieran got squashed in 2015? Rumour has it that Philly sat down in the dressing room after the game and had to take Kieran out of his back pocket afterwards.

You must have been wearing a blindfold while watching games he was in! Did you not at least see him clobber Aidan o shea? Anyway good luck to big Donaghy, another Tyrone great hangs up the boots:)

Tyrone players a lot worse for sledging and dark arts over the years than Donaghy and it seeped down to under 21 team( spitting on Tipp players) minor (sledging a Donegal Player about family member with cancer). Delighted the Mighty dubs have handed Tyrone arses to them two years in a row in Croke Park is and long may it last! Best of luck Donaghy, a warrior, played on the edge but didnt lower himself to the sledging of Tyrone!

An excellent player no doubt, but don't try paint him out to be some kind of angel on the pitch either...with all due respect.
