By the look of things it's a two horse race between Stephen Cluxton and Rory Beggan? Graham Brody of Laois has an outside chance but his county were nowhere near the business end so he won't get it. I think Beggan deserves it. Who do you think deserves to be All-Star goalkeeper for 2018? gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 03/09/2018 16:20:12 2138870 Link 0 |
Both brilliant keepers but can't see Beggan getting it. Cluxton is an amazing keeper the launch pad of all that is good about Dublin.

Rory Beggan . He has a greater range on his kick outs . He has a number of different types of kicks . He is outstanding in open play and can find a man 90 yards away when he hits the ball from his hand . His free taking is incredible and is beyond anyone else in the country . He brought all of this to bear in this year's championship. Cluxton is the most influential goalkeeper I have seen but Rory Beggan has pushed out the parameters of goalkeeping play further than any keeper I have seen . He was the best in the country this season .

Cluxton made a few boo boos yesterday, I think the balance is tipped in Beggan's favour now. Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 03/09/2018 17:19:16 2138888 Link 2 |

I'd agree with Rory Beggan. He had an outstanding year. Monaghan have a fine talent there. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7865 - 03/09/2018 17:24:17 2138892 Link 0 |
Yeah 94% off his kick outs yesterday. Shocking. I hope Gavin have him a thorough dressing down afterwards. #cluxtonout MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13713 - 03/09/2018 17:58:50 2138907 Link 3 |
I agree Mesamis about Cluxton's brilliance with kickouts. For some reason i find it hard to endorse a goalkeeper who consistently panics and runs out to high balls without making contact. Now i know it's not that often. But it's too often.. I could never see him playing as a top soccer goalie and dealing with crosses. I want to point out that i'm not being anti Dub, sincerely congratulate the team on their excellence. I recognise Cluxton's excellence from kickouts and the role in maintaining possession. I love his no nonsense personality too. I'm probably too traditional and like a goalie who can command the square like Martin Furlong of Offaly, Gary Walsh of Donegal in the early 1990s etc. BliainanÁir (Laois) - Posts: 598 - 03/09/2018 18:18:14 2138915 Link 0 |
Of course he has faults but so does Beggan. Both deserving of an All Star should it come their way. Same for Briody who would be my choice to be honest after thinking about it. He was impressive in all his games that I saw. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13713 - 03/09/2018 18:48:35 2138926 Link 3 |
But you have it in a nutshell. Too poor at the bread and butter stuff. Philly McMahon wouldn't have needed to foul Colm Cavanagh yesterday if he had a keeper who could command his area. Cluxton's weakness under the high ball is the key to beating Dublin. Donegal showed it in 2014. Kerry showed it in 2016. And it will eventually see their run ended. Beggan deserves the award, and it takes a lot for a Cavan man to admit that of a monaghan player . cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5016 - 03/09/2018 19:15:52 2138932 Link 0 |
Calm yourself down, Jesus some of ye Dubs have kittens when any sort of negative vibe is put against Cluxton, he made a couple of mistakes yesterday that's all but I think Beggan had overall the better year and I think he will get it, if Cluxton does there won't be any argument either

Cluxton is a fine keeper but, If I had to choose, I would go for Beggan who commands his area, is a very good shot stopper, great on his kick-outs and an excellent free taker. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 03/09/2018 20:44:33 2138951 Link 0 |
Funny when Cluxton was taking free kicks the abuse he got. Even people talking about banning keepers taking free. witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 03/09/2018 21:44:10 2138987 Link 1 |
Nice and calm bud don't worry about that. Your post was just quite funny is all. Cluxton really is judged to a higher standard by a lot of people for some reason. If Beggan put in that shift he'd be rightly lauded and has been. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13713 - 03/09/2018 22:03:35 2138991 Link 3 |
Through no fault of Beggan's, Cluxton has consistently done it at the highest level and and under the greatest pressure the game can provide. Beggan is superb having said that. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8596 - 03/09/2018 22:04:45 2138992 Link 3 |
