Kerry Supporting The Dubs???

(Oldest Posts First)

I have asked 10 Kerry people that I know quite well who they'd like to see winning between Dublin and Tyrone. Guess what? 8 out of 10 went for the Dubs. It is hard to believe!

That they'd prefer to see the Dubs do the 4-in-a-row and set themselves up well for a crack at 5, something that has even failed the Kingdom. Plus another title for Dublin is one closer to Kerry's record.

God, I knew that Kerry took those Noughty defeats to Tyrone quite badly, that team of the decade stuff and all that, but it's only now that I'm realizing what a body blow those defeats at the hands of Tyrone were, and still are it seems.

I should have guessed though. When the final whistle blew on that 2012 qualifier below in Killarney between Kerry and Tyrone, seldom have I seen such celebrating by a team after winning a match, never mind a final. The jumping, dancing, leaping, frolicking, grinning by the likes of the Gooch (main culprit), Donaghy, all of them, even Tomas and Marc whom I thought might be a tad tougher than that, was beyond belief. It was extreme stuff, going beyond even any of the aftermaths of the finals that Kerry did manage to win in the Noughties.

I well knew after that game that Kerry would go no further that year, and they didn't, for they had peaked for that game in Killarney. That was their AI final that year.

It seems that Tyrone still ruffle them.

I don't hate Tyrone at all. Maybe others do but I don't. I don't really care who wins today. I was at all the finals over the years and found both Tyrone and Dublin fans sound and good craic.

Dublin fans can be a bit annoying on here with their gloating and put downs but it's a bit of banter at the end of the day and fairly harmless. If we ever do get back on top we will return the favour.

Yes indeed it is a great achievement, and scary too, are Kerry going to dominate the senior game in the near future? Looks very likely!

I don't think Dublin are going anywhere for the next 5 years! But hopefully Kerry can pip them for a title over the next couple of years.

5 in a row outrageous achievement when you consider there more or less 5 different teams , how do they keep producing these players phenomenal. Kerry are going to win all Ireland's again soon no doubt about it.

Your right Dublin aren't going anywhere, but certain players are ,I think the loss of the lads who are in and around 30 when it happens will be big ,winning an all Ireland won't mask the loss of quality, we have key individuals make no mistake they are the glue the DNA of the side ,but if teams play poorly , set up badly obviously it easier to win games. I have seen first hand most recent minor/development squads and we are miles behind for whatever reason , there is no way that will not impact further down the line , equally i believe it's inevitable that Kerry's young talent will beat fruit , and if it didn't serious questions would need to be asked

Slightly off topic, but would Bernard Brogan qualify to get a medal this year. Someone was asking me that earlier and I didn't have an answer. He wasn't on the bench and he only played a few minutes before that didn't he?
Might be like Gooch in 2014 don't think he ever really claimed he won one that year.

I'd say that it'll be 5 years before Kerry win Sam again. Galway could sneak one over the next year or two. Ditto Donegal. I think Tyrone will be there or thereabouts but just haven't the paint to get over the line. Monaghan, a lot of their lads have played an eternity of football at this stage! Same for Mayo. Kildare can play good stuff but can fall flat as a pancake at the drop of a hat too.

So, it's damn hard to look past the 5-in-a-row. Is there any Seamus Darby in modern Ireland?

Gooch does have his medal from 2014 even though he didn't play any football that year. Bernard did actually play this year and was part of the larger panel for the final, so he will have a medal.
