FOTY 2018

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Who do people see as in the running as we speak?

From my own county I would think the standout performers have been Howard and Fenton.
Many will pluck for CKK, Clon I know you are president of the fan club buddy :)
For me tho, Fenton has been unbelievable this year, better than ever and Howard has shown that he will be a superstar footballer for years to come

David Clifford has been the stand out forward this summer along with Conor McManus and both would have rightful claims

Tiernan McCann and Colm Cav have been top drawer for Tyrone. McCann in particular is a really classy performer

Ryan McHugh, Damien Comer, Daniel Flynn, Rory Beggan all also worth a mention

Right now I would go with
POTY - Fenton
YPOTY - Clifford

Colm Cavanagh.

Probably missed out on MOTM awards because his brother was on the selection committee :-)

Kilkenny or Fenton , can't be having someone from a team at the moment that has list two games , that said if Tyrone win on Sunday that's exactly what will happen , just my opinion but if there were a transfer window I'd have McManus and Clifford at the drop of a hat on this years play

Kilkenny, Fenton, Beggan and McManus would be my picks.

Colm Kavanagh and a couple of Tyrone lads will be in the mix to and probably get the nod over one of the Monaghan lads in the voting.

Probably Lee Keegan or Andy Moran though.:D

Colm Cavanagh, if he puts in another great performance in the final then he is a cert to deserve it anyway, whether he gets it or not is another thing.

Trust the donegal man to think a sweeper who marks no one deserves poty get the boat, Ciaran Kilkenny Brian Fenton Jack Mccaffrey or James McCarthy take your pick of them 4 for poty , it will come down to how they all perform next Sunday.

Beggan
McManus
Cavanagh
Clifford

Deserve mentions for great seasons.

I wouldn't put anything past the selection committee, especially after what has gone on before...

has to Fenton for me, from league through championship, one of the most complete players there is. Also great example to young kids that may have been overlooked at underage to stick with it.

Don't think McCarthy will get nominated clondalkin, there's a bit of a marmite feel to McCarthy's form this season from different posters. Some think he's having another great season others not so much, I'd be of the latter. He's still got that unbelievable graft and work ethic but he's made a lot of uncharacteristic ball handling errors in a few games for me.
If 2 Dublin players get nominated as in previous seasons I think it could split the vote giving the 3rd person the majority of votes

This year for me no one really stood head and shoulders above the rest. You really only tell what real POTY are made of in absolute melting pop of games such like the last few AIs between Dublin and Mayo. Dublin have swept all before them without having anyone exceptional but the favourite for me would be Brian Fenton. Its been mainly a top notch panel performance by Dublin this year. But I would nearly hazard a guess that whoever gets MOTM in the final will be the POTY too. As for a Tyrone candidate , none that I would rave about. Young POTY has to be David Clifford single handily saving Kerry and Fitzmaurice from a shameful embarrassing year ( still a sh*te one at that) .

Agree re Jimmy Mc
I am one of the lads biggest fans but this year has not been a great year by his standards
Far too many handling errors etc

the 3 best Dubs are Fenton Howard Kilkenny

I am not even sure I would have Kilkenny, might actually have Cooper instead of him.

4 players get nominated now for poty, McCarthy has been outstanding all season long.

Footballer (and Hure)r of the year are easy choices for me this year but you have to be a media friendly high profile player to get these awards the last few years. For that reason Hannon and Fenton probably wont get the awards. Straight forward choice on both for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought it was only 4 because Cluxton got nominated for POTY last year and as such they didn't want that to indicate that he was an automatic selection for goalkeeper all star so Clarke got nominated as well?

Regards Hannon, not sure how you make out he is hurler of the year?
For me it should be Graham Mulcahy but I doubt it will be.

I am guessing you think it will be Aaron Gillane or Joe canning in hurling and Ciaran KK in football?

Karl O Connell Rory Beggan Conor Mc Manus all three Monaghan lads have played well from the start of the year and not just when it counted in big games
