Was at a Down championship tonight between Bryansford and Castlewellan. Both teams had similar colours; black shorts, green shirts, the only difference the Ford's gold hoop, mimicked by Castlewellan's sponsor in white on the front of the jersey. Don't know if it was difficult for the players in the heat of a game, but it showed no consideration for elderly or visually impaired spectators. befair (Down) - Posts: 237 - 28/08/2018 03:32:13 2136954 Link 0 |
Don't know the clubs in question obviously , but I'd say not to many clubs can afford an away set of gear for the odd match in a year when there's a clash , do agree it's very annoying to watch and must be desperate to ref

You don't need to have a set of away jerseys. Just use common sense --- borrow a set from the neighbouring club. Would have been the way around these issues in rural areas in the old days anyway

I believe for championship both teams change or toss a coin. For league the home team changes or just turn the jersey's inside out like we used to do back in the day lillyboy (Kildare) - Posts: 429 - 28/08/2018 10:23:28 2136996 Link 0 |
wear your normal kits then and if they clash I'm sure every club can afford bibs. They're used in training to differentiate teams. very cheap too.

Sounds just like poor planning by the County/CCCCCCC and the clubs for that matter not to have had it sorted when fixture was drawn. I know in Antrim if there are two teams in similar colours due to play in the Championship that it is sorted out in advance so that both clubs know who is wearing what. In championship you can be fined , and my club was for not having appropriate amount of flags , you can be done for lines not being marked correctly, you can also be done for jerseys not being numbered correctly , also fairly certain but cannot confirm for definite you can be fined in Championship if someone is wearing different color nicks , championship taken seriously in Dublin so don't see bibs being allowed in a league game let alone championship

In Wexford, I am 99% sure it comes in the fixture : please use alternative colours. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1732 - 28/08/2018 15:30:27 2137159 Link 0 |
Could you imagine Tuam Stars being asked to wear Dunmore McHales Green and White or Corofin giving Caherlistrane their jerseys or Sarsfields wearing St Marys Athenry jersey. That won't work. There is then the issue with Sponsors. But it happened in the Galway championship in the last year or two, both Cortoon Shamrocks and Salthill/Knocknacarra clashed, both have a light blue, Salthill/Knocknacarra had a navy option and changed, the county board made Cortoon wear Galway jerseys and refused to let them stay in the their own jersey. I always find Galway v Cork hard to watch in the championship as the Maroon and Red are very close. Also Clare v Kilkenny can be difficult. I think in London if there was a colour clash that the oldest club wore there kit and the other club had to wear a change kit, I know my club borrowed another clubs set of jerseys once or twice. Rosineri1 (UK) - Posts: 2099 - 29/08/2018 11:24:48 2137348 Link 0 |
In Louth the O Raghallaighs club from Drogheda and the St Fechins club from Termonfechin have very similar jerseys. Judge by yourself. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 29/08/2018 18:28:33 2137490 Link 0 |
I remember one year not too long ago Birr played Dunloy in an All ireland Club final and their kits were almost identical. Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 31/08/2018 00:09:48 2137797 Link 0 |
Funny you say that, I vaguely remember watching the 1986 final between Cork and Galway on an old black and white telly in my grandparents' house. It's the first All Ireland final I can remember but I do remember that I could identify Galway because they were dark grey and Cork were light grey, although I'm almost certain Galway wore maroon shorts in that final too, which also made it easier to differentiate for people in black and white land.

Was at the 2002 final Clare v Kilkenny, it was dark and almost impossible to distinguish the teams due to the colours. An almighty downpour as we left Croke Park.
