Replying To Killarney.87:  "I'd say he is happy where he is. All he has to do is beat Wexford at home and beat Carlow too and 2019 will be seen as progress.

Then come 2020 he can see if he can get Dublin back to a Leinster hurling final."
We're hoping for a lot more than that Killarney.87.
We're coming for ye :-)
He won't be going anywhere.

Fact remains chief..

You jumped the gun and got it arse ways. Fact.

All in a rush to have a dig. Chill a bit fella.. far to eager altogether aren't we!

Not to worry Kingdumboy

No need to accept you got it wrong. We'll just move on and put it down to your overzealous nature."
Well I didn't see anyone else clapping you on the back for so called "joke" so I guess we must be all dumb or maybe it wasn't a joke?

Anyway I didn't jump into anything, but it's funny that you mentioned that coz you're the one who jumped straight into thread started last week started by your fellow county man, and when I called you out on your comments you ran for the hills, I'm still waiting for a reply to that by the way.

Good manager, always liked, Rochford, do not think McGuinness is good for Mayo, Connacht is really tough at the moment no matter who takes Mayo. Would like to see Mc Stay have a go.

Lighten up EDH, I must have hit a nerve there! You still sound very "emotional"......

Indeed, like Monaghan in 1996 and 1997 doing back to back All Irelands.

I'm sad to see SR go, his cause really wasn't helped this year by a horrendous run of injuries throughout the NFL and championship (indiscipline also being a problem). The way that the Mayo County Board has gone about this has been awful, as per usual.

Unfortunately, we have a special talent in Mayo gaelic games for airing dirty linen publicly, and once again this has proven the case. Shades of O'Mahony '89, McDonald '92, Holmes and Connelly '15 come to mind.

The County Board needs a good clean out IMO, as several of them have been there for far too long. I remember winning a county féile title back in 2001 and seeing the same fella who presented the cup still on the same position 15+ years later, and he's not alone on that score.

Between this, going out of the championship early and the imbroglio involving the ladies' county set-up, it's been a very bad summer for Mayo football.

Things can only get better...

Very sad to see Stephen having to go like this, and a vey bad day for the panel. The sending off of Donal, without any doubt cost the team the big one. The way Stephen used his half back line, and the football knowhow he implemented, as he had done in corofin, made Mayo the only team to put it up to, what will be regarded rightly, as the best team of all time by 17.10 on Sunday evening. I strongly believe he will, in 2020, lead Galway to Glory as John O'Mahony did 20 years ago following a similar heave. As for he future, Jim McGuiness is by far the best manager out there, he could offer something new, but it is impossible to see him going before a selection committee to lay out his panel and game plan. JH would be IMO a bad choice, he had the helm when the team was at its very best in 2014, but was outwitted by Kerry. I do not think he would get the same level of belief from the players this year. Most likely he man they want has already indicated he is available.

Leave it now Tom, you're getting a bit saucy at this stage.

Got a funny feeling that if it is Horan he will be the one to rip it up and start again. I know there's a perception he's loyal to this group of players because he's defended them in the press but he had a pretty ruthless streak as a manager. He may decide it's in his best interests to move some of them on and he might have enough credit with the group to be able to do it.

Replying To MesAmis:  "I'd echo that.

I think what McGuinness did in Donegal was astonishing in many ways.

I remember seeing Donegal play Cork in Croker in 2009/2010 and they were awful. Now it was good Cork side but Donegal were a ragged outfit at the time. You would have been laughed out of the place had you suggested that most of those players would win an All-Ireland and 3 Ulster titles over the next 5 years. The turnaround was remarkable."
I think I remember that game, it was the August bank holiday weekend and it was over after about 20 mins. Cork easily beat Donegal in 2nd gear that day.

Ye won't have to improve much on this year to catch us the way we are playing at the minute.

Gilroy and Cunningham are doing a great job there.

I think Horan is the man for the job if he wants it, give him 4 years to build a new team, his target should be Connaught and super 8's next year, get a lot of new players in during the lge.

I don't see Horan getting involved. He got out very quickly the last time.

I cant see any new manager ripping it up and starting with droppng the older guys off the panel..

It could take years to re-build a new team there and I don't honestly think they have enough quality in new players just yet.

I think a few tweaks here and there and sticking with the old reliable players may be their only chance on winning Sam next year... After that some of the older players will have retired themselves anyway.

The gap is closing at the top with certain teams, and it is no longer just a Dublin and Mayo axis.

Mayo have been so close recently and to start with a raft of new players etc would definitely drop them down the pecking order.

I think the issue this year was playing the standard bearers so early in the year.
They needed a break until championship and if this meant relegation then so be it.
The injuries were really huge losses also.

Question is - do the County Board want a quick fix or a long term plan.
This will decide what action the next manager takes imo.
