Stephen Rochford and Mayo

Looks like a bit of a mess and imposing a deadline for having a back room team in place was a silly move imo.
Don't think he had much choice in the end.
As far as Mc Guinness being involved , I just don't see it.

Stephen, a gentleman and an excellent coach/ manager. Treated disgracefully by Mayo county board and a lot of so called fans. Come back to Corofin where you will be treated with respect. Mayo Gaa the gift that keeps on giving, tune in tomorrow where the ladies will tell us what has been going on there..

Horan could finish a job with mayo that he started. McGuinness may well be tempted. I think that if any good manager were out there at a loose end and saw a team like mayo without a manager, they would see huge possibility and be tempted to apply. Whether an outsider would get a job in mayo would be interesting, but they had a Galway man on board in the not so distant past.

ps good luck Stephen Rochford. He did really well with Mayo and should be remembered for what he brought to the championship, especially last year. The only team to consistently put it up to the Dubs over the past few years too.

Replying To Killarney.87:  "John Fogarty in the examiner just broke news of his resignation statement. Looks like he thinks he didn't have the backing of the county board executive.

Was it Rochford or the county board that wanted to add Ford and Conway to the back room team?

After the fiasco around the appointment of Connelly/Holmes, the ladies club football team and now this, the county board seem to be a complete mess.

I hope they somehow manage to persuade Jim McGuinness to come in. It would be some fun seeing Dublin vs Mayo next September with a McGuinness led Mayo standing in the way of 5 in a row. He is the last man to stop the Dubs in championship football."
McGuinness is a 1 trick pony.. he loves the limelight too much and would be a bad move in my humble opinion...

Mayo is disarray yet again - the ladies team and now this....

Rochford deserved better as did those before him..

Mayo, Mayo, Mayo.......This was your first chance in a few years to have a quiet winter and spring, keep the heads down and come into the summer under the radar with a refreshed team. Now, the new manager and the players are going to be scrutinized every time they step out the front door.

No secret with the ladies, high profile player failed a fitness test, didn't believe the feedback, left and friends joined the player in question.

Fionn, that is a lazy and untrue analysis of McGuinness tenure, he took over a Donegal team that was hammered out the gate the previous year against Armagh. In 2010 he lead Donegal to the U21 final against Dublin, only beaten because they missed a last minute penalty. He had to tighten them defensively in 2011. Gilroy did the same with Dublin remember Meath and 5 goals, now take out the cynical fouling of Dublin in the semi final and the targeting of Lacey (the playmaker and footballer of the year in 2012) in particular. He had to go off injured following a number of shocking tackles and from Barry Cahill in particular. Anyway Dublin scrapped home and just about won the final following a dubious goal by McManamin (14 steps and all that), anyway Donegal won in 2012 scoring huge amounts, now on the way to winning the beat the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 winners and 2010 runners up. They ten celebrated for a year and came back in 2014 and yes they beat you know who on the way. He managed to lose the 2014 final by a goal, when you take into account they hit the post in the last minute and the keeper has one poor kick out for another goal to Donaghy , I think it is unfair to claim he is a one trick pony.

I don't think Jim would go near Mayo, though I think an outsider might be the way to go, there's plenty that will fancy the job, Mayo always seem to find a way to shoot themselves in the foot, even when they are long gone from this years championship they are still one of the big stories, Pope Francis must have put the tin hat on the curse by signing the jersey.

Breaffy crops up again, it seems very coincidental after what's gone before. Who's wagging the tail.

Spot on, the Dubs are still afraid of Jim after 2014, he has the know how to unpick the blue machine if he has the talent to work with, no doubt there is huge potential still in Mayo but I'd rather see Jim manage his native county sometime in the future.

Where did the story start that Jim McGuiness actually said he was interested in the Mayo job? I know in the past he said he admires this team but has he said he would take the job?

Given Jim was linked to even the Cavan job it is inevitable he will be linked to the Mayo job. Despite it been a fairly attractive job I do not see it myself. Like can you see Jim managing a Mayo side against a Donegal side captained by Michael Murphy given how close they are........don't think so. I would love to see Jim back with Donegal in some capacity and I think we will but not sure when. Possibly before Michael Murphy retires I suggest but won't be in the immediate future given the management team already in place and the close connections between all. More likely is James Horan I imagine but whoever gets the job will have an excellent but aging squad which will need to be rectified. Therefore I cannot see it been a quick fix which is another reason as to why Jim is a non runner in my view.

Horan had his chance. Had this team at it's peak. I can't see him improving them. McGuinness can improve them tactically but more importantly, if they ever get there again, have them all mentally right on them big day. With all of them believing they will win and doing what it takes to win.
