Rumours floating around today. Our county board have a habit of treating managers unfairly. It looks like they have somebody else lined up for the job and have put obstacles in Rochfords way to prevent him from continuing on.

Rumours that he has stepped down. From reading between the lines it seems the county board are the issue this time, not the players wanting him out. They seem to have been putting him under pressure to get a management team in place quickly, which is a hard thing to do. Maybe he feels undermined with all the McGuiness rumours as well! He is a talented manager who has been getting it in the neck (unfairly) from all quarters, be it Bernard Flynn or his own supporters. and maybe he feels he doesn't need the hassle of another year of it. I think either James Horan or Jim McGuiness will be in charge next year if he has stepped down. Lets face it they have no one else proven enough within to do it!

Was down their yesterday at a club game when word broke about the Breaffy lads looking like stepping into the backroom team next year.

Some very divided strong opinions among some of the locals on those potential appointments and the Breaffy undercurrent that could create.

I wouldn't be surprised but would be surprised given how Rochford bended in 16 with Hennelly etc.

Would Horan be mad to go back in there? I think McGuinness would lead them to the promised land if he was interested in the job.

If Rochford is forced out any manager would be mad to go in.

I'd say rumour is all it is as they'd be mad to get rid of Rochford!

Unless he wants to step away of course as it's a huge commitment and I believe he's got a young family but as long as he wants the job I presume he has it?

Do you mean mad to go in, or mad to go in?

Mayo county board scrambling today. Apparently manager met county board with two new selectors he wanted to appoint. Executive didn't approve appointments. They have baggage from the time of turning Forde down as manager. The two boys left and the manager stayed. Stand off started. They are all that is left as the first choice would not come on board. He resigned or threatened to resign and they have no plan in place as he has two years left on a three year term, and so has them in a corner. They have no money to go elsewhere (big debt on the new stand), the players want him, the Breaffy players want their selectors, and their keeper.

Meanwhile, over in the World that is the Mayo blog, Willie Joe is in meltdown, stop the leaks, it is like the Vatican, nobody is allowed comment unless it is within party lines.

What did Francis do to that jersey yesterday.

He may stay but the dye is cast.

John Fogarty in the examiner just broke news of his resignation statement. Looks like he thinks he didn't have the backing of the county board executive.

Was it Rochford or the county board that wanted to add Ford and Conway to the back room team?

After the fiasco around the appointment of Connelly/Holmes, the ladies club football team and now this, the county board seem to be a complete mess.

I hope they somehow manage to persuade Jim McGuinness to come in. It would be some fun seeing Dublin vs Mayo next September with a McGuinness led Mayo standing in the way of 5 in a row. He is the last man to stop the Dubs in championship football.

He's gone , and if the statement is correct no choice, job can only be done with unequivocal support of board , hard enough job even with that . Have no idea we're they will go now Horans name will be bandied about don't see it myself . Will they go outside the county ? McGuinness ?
