Replying To Giveitago:  "I agree with your assessment of Solan. Good coach but poor / slow decision making cost Mayo in the U20 final. Whoever takes over should have Solan as a selector. He has great knowledge of what is available.
James Horan looks like the guy to give it one last go with this panel. Looking back at the squad, Mayo had a high quantity of injures during the league and leading up to the Kildare game. The panel is not strong enough at the moment so some of the U21's of the last few years have to start making an impact."
I think it is a little unfair to judge Solan on 1 bad game/decision. He has achived a lot in a short space of time.

Horan left Cafferkey on Donaghy in 2014 and also failed to exploit Dublin in 2013 final who were technically a man down late in the game due to an injury. By that rationale would I rule out Horan? Absolutely not. Learning from past experiences is what makes the best coaches what they are.

I wouldn't give Solan the job yet but its more to do with his level of experience overall, not based on 1 bad day. But for me he looks like a potential mayo manager in the future

McStay now available , would make a great Manager, but will he come with McHale , can anyone say why McHale is not wanted by Mayo players, he gave great service to Mayo as a player

I would love to see James Horan with Mike Solan and Declan Darcy as selectors.Darcy has serious knowledge with being with Dublin the last couple of years.Barry Solan as SC coach.Gavin Duffy from Connacht rugby as life style coach.

Just wish they would announce James Horan and whoever he wants for his backroom team.

If I were Mayo I'd be screaming for Caroline Currid to be involved. She could be very valuable and Mayo is made for her. Proven track record

Can you let us in on the secret then?

Seeing as the Co Board made their statement yesterday I think we'll let them rubber stamp his appointment before saying anything else. Not everyone's going to be happy though.

Over the weekend the bookies suspended betting which indicates they heard something that the rest of us haven't, for me I would have Horan as a selector, not good enough as a manager, yes he brought in an element of professionalism to the Mayo panel and brought in new players but he made a number of mistakes in 2012, 13 and 14 which cost us matches, has the game changed much since his retirement in 2014 I think it has a small bit, would McGuiness and Horan have the same impact as in early 2010s I doubt it, at the end of the day who would want the Mayo job? Not too many

Betting was suspended the wk of the all ireland as well. I suppose they were waiting to see what Mcguinness and Horan might say.

Horan and Mcguineass were on a radio talk show not sure which Horan said he is happy with westport and the time wasnt right. Jim said he would not be going back to Gaelic as he has dedicated 6 years to soccer and wanted a soccer job.

Id say Jim is a definite NO
Horan a slight maybe

Looks like it was all decided long before Stephen left. The players have got the man they want.
