I like John Kiely a lot, and what a job he has done, but his idea that the whole squad should parade behind the band is ridiculous. If I was number 24 on the squad, I don't think I'd be bothered. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1737 - 17/08/2018 15:06:20 2134074 Link 0 |

The parade is great man. Gets the crowd whipped up into a frenzy good style! Don't see it in other sports really either so wouldn't like to see it gotten rid of entirely. Don't think it'd look as well with the whole panel mind! MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 17/08/2018 17:57:21 2134110 Link 2 |
I tend to read a lot of autobiography's have never read a player that didn't dream of the parade , equally they state while in the parade they are biting to get going , love the parade as the pass by roar me head off , and if the people that matter ie the players enjoy it then debate over

Always felt the parade is the male equivalent of Father Teds Lovely Girls contest but if the players are up for it, tis fine with me. facethepuckout (Roscommon) - Posts: 214 - 17/08/2018 22:39:02 2134152 Link 1 |
Surprised so many here have positive views of the parade. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1412 - 17/08/2018 22:39:46 2134153 Link 0 |
Class! Lol. Sure a parade never caused and harm. Seriously though, I enjoy the parade. It adds to the occasion imo. As the players walk by you cheer them on. It adds to the atmosphere if nothing else. If the players came out and voted to get rid of it then yes, but more importantly, as a previous poster stated if they enjoy it, it must stay surely.

He obviously just feels for his subs who are working hard and especially thae lads that will come in and hopefully help the team win. As someone mentioned above, most past players love it and the subs have as much right to be in it as the starters as they're are part of the team. As everyone says these days.. it's a 26 man game not 15.

Normally wouldn't post on these kind of topics but had to as I couldn't disagree more with what you said

Loud high tempo music??!! I started a thread here a few years back complaining about the deafening background music that was being played in Croke Park before matches, right up to the second before throw-in. The music was so loud in sections that you could barely carry out a conversation with the person next to you. Unusually for one of my musings, it received practically unanimous agreement and I notice that the scale and volume of the pre-match and half time music in Croke Park has been reduced, thank God! We don't need it. Parade is a great GAA tradition, especially in a packed stadium before a final. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 18/08/2018 08:37:19 2134173 Link 2 |
I take your point onion breath but the whole fanfare of the day is part of our dna and I don't have to tell you what all Ireland final day means to real gaa people. I personally like to be in the ground for 2.15 to soak up the atmosphere, read the programme, get my bottles of water and chat to like minded gaels.

Anything to back up your quack opinion on that? From speaking to people who have taken part in parades they love it, really gets them pumped up, gets the crowd pumped up. Adds to the atmosphere, adds to the adrenalin. Now why would it be more interesting in your opinion?

Yes and make the pitch smaller and get rid of hurleys and helmets and use an oval ball.

Fair enough. That's your opinion on my opinion.
