Limerick V Galway

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This should be a very interesting game. Galway will be clear favourites but Limerick if the occasion doesn't get to them should have a real go at it. The way they're going has a draw written all over it!! By the way, what date is a possible replay pencilled in for?

Should be a great match. No clear favorite but I'd favor Galway due to experience and 2 weeks rest.

Read trump's Post again, 'no clear favourites'

Maybe you were still confused by the OP as to what they were actually trying to say.. Took me a few reads to decipher. :)
Anyway, I would be very optimistic about our chances but maximum respect to Galway. They're in the final as defending AI champions. Whoever wins will earn it.

Clare also gave Limerick quite the tussle. Clare had 2 chances to knock Galway out and yet couldn't. Galway are deserved favorites based on not losing a match in the Championship and due to being defending champions. No disrespect to Limerick just the facts.

Galway look so bulked up. It takes a lot of oxygen to feed that muscle. Probable why they fade for a while. They just got by Clare who seemed to have a plan to let them run themselves out. This will not go missing on Limerick and will feel if they stay within 4 or 5 points of them and when Limerick get their purple patch run Galway into the ground. Limerick are a different animal than Clare. It should be an interesting contest between two great teams.

Limerick for me, if they can match Galway from the off. Yesterday, after the initial burst of scores and particularly after the goal Galway ran out of ideas completely and it was Clare's wastefulness, and nothing else that helped them limp over the line. After that goal they won nothing in the half forward line and depended on breaks which they halfheartely contested. Also Limerick will have the benefit of the extra week to prepare.

I'd like Limerick to win...mostly because they haven't won since 1973. They have a nice team...but i think they are tailor made for Galway.
Limerick are a physical team...work very hard as a team with a good bench.
Galway are similar, but Galway have better players in key postions. ..McInerney will be back and that will shore up the half back line.
Glynn, Whelan and Canning will do damage up front.
Galway struggle against fast running ball playing teams like Clare ....I thought Clare should have won today,
Looking forward to a great final.

Woodlawn
Cork easily beat Clare twice. Limerick want down to Cork, lost their captain and center back in the first few minutes, went fifty minutes a man short and withstood a few atrocious reffing decisions and still got a draw. They easily beat Cork in extra time in Croke Park. They also beat both Tipp and Waterford far more convincingly in Munster that Clare did and also took Kilkenny at first time of asking. This is a 50/50 contest all the way.

Galway also beat KK at the first time of asking. Beat them very handily actually. We beat them twice by 8 and 7 points.
I do think Galway are justified favourites as defending champions and being unbeaten in this year's championship.
However, everyone's well aware that this game could go either way. The Munster championship plus the subsequent knockout games involving Limerick, Clare, Cork, Galway and KK have shown that there isn't much between any of these teams on a given day.
I'd love to see us go back-to-back as it would cement the reputation of this team. However, if we don't manage it, I'm very glad that it's Limerick who would be taking the title.

You forgot to mention that Clare beat Limreick. You cant just overlook this as it really thows a spanner in your theory. . And there was nothong 'easy'about any of the games you mentioned.

Ok Galway have been installed as favorites but it wouldn't be a YUGE upset if Limerick beat them. 50/50 like someone above said sounds good to me. Some questions though:

1. Is 3 weeks too much time off versus the 2 weeks Galway will have?

2. How do Limerick compare to Waterford from last years final?

3. Are Galway as good as they were last year or have they lost their bite?

Galway start games very fast and fade out where Limerick in some games very slow to get up-to the pace but finish very strong.
Whichever team has a strong 3rd quarter could well be the winning of the game but in my opinion Limerick have the players to nullify the Galway danger men and stop the supply getting to Glynn Whelan and Mannion.
I do sense if Galway get a big lead like they done in the last couple of games Limerick might not be able to pull it back as it could seep the confidence out of a young team.
However I don't expect it to happen and think if Limerick are neck and neck with Galway and the finish line in sight they will over run Galway to take Liam shannonside.

James Owens is a good ref and a nice man, ie he gives his time freely to the GAA. But he should not get the final. Give someone else a chance.

James McGrath it seems will be the ref.

The only thing we need to worry about reference the All Ireland Final is hoping that all the lads are 100% fit and injury free, Clare was the banana skin we could have slipped on!

1. 3 weeks is the ideal lead in time actually. I wish Galway had a third week off. We looked very tired at times in the 2nd half yesterday and we will need every moment of the 2 weeks we have to rest and recuperate.

2. I would say Waterford may have had some better individual players but Limerick are a better balanced team. Also Limerick have a much better bench than Waterford had last year. They can also "mix" it and are not wedded to the use of a sweeper in the way that Waterford were. Limerick have the potential to pose a greater challenge than Waterford did last year.

3. Up to now Galway are not as good as they were last year. Their experience and know how has brought them through so far but they seem to be lacking some of the raw hunger of last year. It is possible that it will all come together in the final and we will produce our best performance of the year. We will need to, because I don't think the way we played in the 2 games against Clare would be good enough to defeat Limerick.
