David Clifford

In terms of individual performance this season, the 3 best in the country (so far) would be Beggan, McManus and Clifford. Should Dublin get to the final I'd say they'd get at least one nomination with one of the Monaghan lads bowing out of the running - a toss up between Fenton and Cooper.
Dublin and Tyrone are all about the collective this season. Although they've both put in some very good displays, they haven't showcased as individually as other teams.

Clifford is a joy to watch though. Not sue if he'll get POTY after going out at this stage but he'll definitely get a nomination.

Cliffard will definitely be in the running for YPOY and probably favorite at this stage, i dont think he will be considered for senior to be honest.

Its easy to forget but you also have Con O Callaghan, lad has won, the club hurling All Ireland again, League title, Sigerson Cup, Leinster and in with a fair crack of winning an All Ireland. Id acknowledge his form in football hasn't been as steller as last season and prob suffering from second season syndrome, but still that is some array of trophies in the calendar year.

Like i said you also a have O Shea, Howard, EBG, Sean Andy, Cooke and Thompson all worthy of strong shouts. There really has been some top young players on show this year. Much could depend on semis and final, the awards generally get a bit latter-round-centric.

Young David would be a worthy winner though as the crow flies.

Graham Brody Laois is up there too but as i feared people will have short memories and only remember from the Super 8s on.

Be very hard to look beyond McManus and Big Rory for the senior gong. I suppose a lot will depend on the next couple of games.

Kilkenny, Fenton and Jimmy Mc for us should be in with a shout if we progress, but id say we will get a split vote or people would be bored of voting for Dublin players.

It all depends on the next 3 games. And I'd say along with those you've mentioned, the following are all in the running;

Colm Cavanagh
Karl O'Connell
Shane Walsh
Damien Comer
Johnny Cooper

I don't see Galway beating Dublin so that will rule their lads out.

If Tyrone make the final, Cavanagh has to be in with a shout. Crazy to think he's not even the best footballer in his family!

Has to be McManus if Monaghan make the final. Previous seasons will also play a part in people's thinking IMO.

If Dublin blitz the 2 remaining games, then it's probably going to Fenton or McCarthy. McCarthy is the best footballer in the country IMO and should've won it last year.

I think Howard having 2 games left will see him pip Clifford for YPOTY

He would be a fool if he passed on a Aussie offer. He would be by far the best Irish player ever to Aussie rules.

Why will Howard get POTY, what has he done??? Howard is the new Brian Fenton, comes out of the blue, plays decent and people rave about him.

McManus or Clifford have been by far the best players in the country this year. If you could pick a player to have on your team you'd pick either of them every day ahead of Howard.

David Clifford is a cert for YPOTY.
One of the newspaper stated this already I thought I which is a bit of a giveaway.
He is the new media darling like Joe Canning was at that age.
And rightly so because like Joe Canning did, Clifford has showed his prodigious super stardom in the Super 8s when his team needed him most.

Rarely does a player get POTY or YPOTY if not making the semi finals at least , I believe Clifford is worthy of YPOTY but can't have him winning the main award if some one like McManus goes the whole way or C Kilkenny, let's say either of them nail the semi and the final would you still have Clifford ahead of them ?

Listened to an interview with Seán Óg Ó hAilpín recently where he outlined the various and serious pressures faced by young lads attempting to make it at Aussie Rules. (Using his two brothers as examples) Any players intending to make move would do well to listen.

It's a long winter ahead now, but with the likes of David coming through we will be back winning title 38 a lot sooner than people like Jimbo can stomach.

Ah Jaysus hermit come on, no Dub likes to see Kerry win, how will your own stomach be if we do the 4 in a row, or even 5?
I respect Kerry but I still want them to lose.

Where did you hear that I wouldn't mind listening to it?

From Dontfoul

David Clifford Super 8s

0-02 from 2 frees
4-00 from 4 goal attempts
0-12 from 17 (71%) on point attempts

That's 78% (4-14 from 23 attempts)

Not bad going!!

The problem is Kerry don't respect anyone.

I think the Super 8's may change that. POTY will still probably go to one of the finalists most often, but more games for the final eight teams means we'll probably get a much better spread of All Stars and other awards from now on.

It's not unthinkable that POTY could go to McManus for example if he has a stormer at the weekend again, even if Monaghan lose.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't get YPOTY, but whoever stated that he should get POTY, I can't agree with. The only game in which you could argue that he was a real difference maker for his team was the Monaghan game.
His goal against Galway was a pull on the ground with the last kick, after the game was well over as a contest. He racked up a good score including a penalty against a Kildare team after they were reduced to 14 and had nothing to play for. A game in which Kerry cruised home.
He was quietish in Munster. You could very well argue that Kerry's results in all games would have been the same without him, apart from the Monaghan game.
This is not to diminish his achievement in anyway, as it's been utterly exceptional for a lad straight out of minor. He's the most talented young player I have seen.
But for POTY, in my opinion the winner has to have been a vital, indispensable part of their team across the season.

With Dublin in the final, I do think Howard will win YPOTY.

The final lives longest in the memory when the awards are being distributed.

It's between Colm Cavanagh and any number of Dubs for the main award - Fenton, McCarthy, Kilkenny, Mannion all well in touch. No absolute frontrunner as of yet.
