"That's one of the scores of the game". Every score is ! I mean you wouldn't say "David Clifford is one of the players on the Kerry team . Adding in the word "best" helps Malonemagic (Laois) - Posts: 766 - 25/07/2018 14:01:12 2126100 Link 0 |

Calling GAA suits 'dinosaurs' is a bit old, if not cliched. David Brady overused the term 'junno what' to an alarming extent, when he came on air first. He has stopped, so someone obviously told him about it, and it was obvious....believe me (Trump cliche). Cringiest cliche in GAA commentary/punditry now has to be the 'quarterback' references. 'Oh, he's like a quarterback sitting back in de pockit'. Just a pathetic attempt to appear current that one. GAA on field roles/positions aren't remotely like quarterbacks imo, certainly not the examples that have been shown to date. The term 'in fairness' is thoroughly overused as well, and suggests that someone/something is under attack or in need of defense, when usually no such attack has occurred and no such defense is necessary.....in fairness like!! Oh Lordy, where to start... 'On this/that occasion' must be mandatory for the RTE microphone merchants - worst culprits Paul Earley, Dessie Dolan and Canning, who frequently embellishes it to 'that particular occasion'. Canning's use of 'however' every two minutes... help! Dolan and 'he'll be disappointed with that'. Does Martin Carney start every reply to his missus' conversation with 'very much so'? He does to Morrissey et al. Then there's Carty's go to lines, 'yes indeed, and certainly, as we speak, at this moment in time...' But how Canning has made such a career out of commentating is a triumph for meaningless waffle and windbaggery. 'Star raced through with great vigour and panache and no little style'. WTF does that mean??? Of course, Marty and Ger love a little cute nickname as well - Star, Banty, the Rock etc etc. Agree with the poster who mentioned the 'marquee forward' idiocy. Even worse is 'players with the x factor' and 'bringing their A game' (Tomas O Se). 'Stepping up to the mark/plate' is popular too. Oh for the days of Micheal and Michael... marooney (Galway) - Posts: 88 - 26/07/2018 00:30:15 2126290 Link 0 |

These are premiership phrases or cliches, you're literally just letting words annoy you. Life must be hell.
