Any truth to the rumour that we won't be seeing the Daithi Burke/Conlon match up? Big injury rumour circulating last night!

This one is doing the rounds at the moment with rumours circulating he has broken his ankle to having twisted it. O'Donohue had come out earlier and stated that he was fine, but there is no smoke without fire, so we may not find out until 16:30 tomorrow. He is arguably now Galway's most important player, and has sorted out a position that has caused Galway no end of grief for the last 25+ years. There is no doubt that were Daithi Burke to be out for tomorrow or even for the rest of the season (were Galway to get through tomorrow) that it would massively swing the odds against Galway of retaining their title.

I'd agree he probably is Galway's most important player. Ye have good cover almost everywhere else.

I've just heard from a fairly relaible source that he is fine but we will wait and see. On current form he will want to be near his best to handle what Conlon will bring to the game.
It's a long time since I looked forward to a weekend of hurling as much.

I had predicted a Galway v Clare All Ireland final way back in another post so know have to make do with a semi final. I have highly rated this Clare team all year and this is going to be the biggest test for Galway so far

Replying To LohansRedHelmet:  "I dont think any full back in the country is well able for John Conlon this year. Arguably the best full back he has faced this year was last week on Liam Ryan and I think Ryan did very well even though Conlon scored 3 points from play and won at least 2 frees that resulted in scores.

John Conlon's scores from play this year:

V Cork - 5
V Waterford - 3
V Tipp - 2
V Limerick - 4
V Cork - 5
V Wexford - 3

That is not even counting the frees he has won. He has been sublime. I have no fear of him not getting the better of any full back. The key is to feed him ball and thats where Clare's challenge will come from not who is marking Conlon."
He got booked for consistent fouling against Liam Ryan, and arguably could have been sent off on two yellows, got away with a woeful, dirty slap in the first half when Ryan was away from him. He was most definitely second best that day. 2 of his 3 points were gimmes. Having a good year, all star nominee, but HOTY talk is nonsense, he disappeared in the 2nd half of Munster Final when needed most.

He didn't disappear - the supply ball into him did. He is without doubt well in with a chance of HOTY

Colm Spillane CLEANED him in the second half, he disappeared. Call a spade a spade. I accept he's been playing well but the hype always outweighs the reality.

Expecting a close game Galway might just shade it but if Clare are in the game coming down the home stretch they could catch out Galway as they did to Tipp.
Can't wait for this one.

Replying To LohansRedHelmet:  "All the pressure is on Galway and rightly so. They are formidable and All Ireland champions. However, I think Clare have a reasonable chance for the following reasons:

1. Croke Park has brought the best out of these players in the past and they will get a great buzz from being back there. The performance in the drawn game and replay in the All Ireland final in 2013 was superb.

2. Galway are big favorites and all the pressure is on them. No one thinks Clare will win. This suits us.

3. Clare have had top quality games all season since the start of the championship. Munster teams are battled hardened at this stage. Perhaps this is the reason 3 out of the 4 semi finalists are from Munster.

4. I truly believe this will be Galways biggest test of the year. They flattered to deceive against KK in the first Leinster final to draw the game. Clare are better than Kilkenny.

5. Clare's top players - Kelly, Conlon, Podge are all on form right now. Our defense has been better than people give us credit for with Morey, O Connor and Browne having great seasons.

With all that being said it is very hard to argue against the fact that if Galway play to their best they will win. This line is applicable to Galway at the moment versus any team in the Country however.

I am slightly optimistic we could be in for an absolute belter. I would be very surprised if there is much between us."
But that all ireland final in 2013 and the replay were too very nice open games of hurling, there was no hard hitting tackles to the degree that Clare are going to receive from Galway this weekend.

First fifteen minutes Galway looked a different level to Clare, particularly physically. They were turning over Clare's short puck outs with ease and Glynn was cleaning up at full forward. Clare coming back now, five points in it.

Set up for a great second half, long periods of the first half it was brawn and sweat - hopefully more hurling second

Great start for Galway but Clare are not giving up. 2nd half should be great. Galway need to clean up theirs wides count.

Galway shooting is dreadful.
They can blame no one only themselves if they go down today.

Ridiculous carry-on from Clare at half time, Galway players left standing around for five minutes. A fine on the way to the Clare county board I think but the only way that will stop is if the ref throws the ball in and if you're not on the pitch, tough!

As to the match, Clare doing well to stay in touch despite Galway being, in my opinion, the better team. So many wides. For all Galway's qualities they seem to have trouble killing teams off.

Mistakes both sides Galway should have won it at the death poor shot. But what a game? It really is a fantastic game what the GAA is all about. No faint hearts out there both sides a credit to the game. And extra time now................
