Monaghan V Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This game is sink or swim for Kerry this year and surely the managements last chance but that has been said for the last few years despite bizarres substitutions and match tactics time after time.

3 subs brought on all at the same time on 65mins with none of them being capable of changing a game was the final nail in the coffin but Galway should have being up by 10 points plus at that stage anyway. Being at the game after the first 10 mins you could tell our heads were not in the game and fair play to galway they took full advantage.

Clones seems like a mountain to climb right now against a very well drilled, motiavated and skilled Monaghan team. If we do lose then at least we have to show some bit of hunger and passion in our performance. Obviously we can't be as bad as we were yesterday so I expect some resemblance of a response.

I think you have to remember that Fermanagh beat Monaghan this year, Kerry were caught a bit flat footed against a very good Galway team who have the beating of anybody, though the loss on Conroy will affect them going forward,
I expect Kerry to win this, Monaghans record of a good performance followed by a bad one doesn't inspire confidence in them, despite being at home.
Kerry by 3.

Would love to see Monaghan win this and make the semi final but can't see Kerry losing this one.

I suspect Kerry are doomed. Monaghan will replicate the Galway plan. Kerry have to many lightweight highly skilled fancy Dan players which don't fit the modern 'puke football' culture.

You say we are September supporters and you're correct you'll get no argument from me on that."
In fairness all counties have troughs and peaks in their support. The difference is the hardcore is greater in some. I mean the Kerry Limerick Mayo Cork q/f double header had only 21k at probably majority Mayo whose support has ramped up given they were a top 2/3 team for 6 consecutive years. I remember living in Donegal when we were last going well and went to a few of their league and championship games. Good hardcore but often outnumbered by some of the teams going well at the time like Armagh. Donegal have big support now while Armagh's has come back to the pack. A few yrs ago was at a league playoff with Dublin in Portlaoise where they outnumbered us 3 to 1 yet our championship meeting last year in Tullamore we had 80% of the support. Galway football has a decent hardcore but need a really good team to get the marginals out. On Kerry strange to think there was a really impressive crowd of 16k at their Munster semi v Clare yet they had by far the smallest support of the four teams yesterday. Will have to make do with radio on Sunday for the Clones game as will be driving home from Newbridge or nowhere. Think Kerry will get a reaction on Sunday. Should be a tasty contest.

Will be a very close affair, hopefully we come out on top.

ps; Kerry supporters, don't forget to have your diesel tanks"at low" when you arrive. Yiz can fill-up on our "legendary" low-cost-diesel for the journey home!

Yeah the legendary low cost Monaghan diesel, engines are expensive though, kind of outweighs the savings.

Have to say I saw enough puke football in Croke Park during the Galway Kerry match yesterday to last a lifetime & not a fancy Dan among them.

Ya 16,000 at Munster semifinal and 28,000 at Munster final but I'd say about 500 yesterday .

Tough game to predict this one, heart says Monaghan head doesn't know. Usually asking the question, if both teams played to their best who would win, is a sound prediction method, Just don't know how good Kerry are. They have the individual's and a mix of experience to be very good but seem lacking in team structure, or at least they were on Sunday. I would expect that to the emphasis in the Kingdom this week. It had been a long time since they had a proper competitive game.

For Kerry I presume Young is out, and unlike most, while I do expect a change or two to give options, I do not see wholesale changes for the sake of it. Were the best players not on the field against Galway?

Thought that K Hughes looked sharp when he came on Sunday, for Darren the game seemed to go by him somehow. Expect a bigger input from both of them next week, time for both to step up. All in all it's hard to call. Would take a draw now

I would never ever write Kerry off ,for me the Galway game was just a rotten day at the office that can happen to anyone , for me this Kerry team will still have a big say on this years championship, they'll win next Sunday and then watch out.

Kerry will bite back unfortunately. That was their bad match out of the way. Will be more difficult to keep up the intensity for a 2nd week in a row and Kerry have more to give.
I think Darren is being asked to play in a different role this year. Before he always did a lot of direct runs trying for scores.now he is more of a sweeper behind the midfield.good to see Kieran come on.he was rusty against laois but had the know how against kildare to maintain possession. He can only get better. Could see Colin Walsh on the bench but they would only introduce him if the game is in the melting pot.
God it would be great to be guaranteed a semi final spot with a result on Sunday.
Be interesting to see who picks up Clifford and geaney. Drew just couldn't handle them. Flynn burnt him too many times on sunday. Ryan would do a job on either of them. Not sure who else.

I would expect a big Kerry performance think they will come out like possessed after a week of scalding. If Monagahan can contain them for 25 mins and stop ball going into the forward line and really frustrate them, then i think Kerry could cough up a lot of scoreable frees in McManus or Rory range. If the game is still in the melting pot after 25 mins we have a real game.

2015, 2016, 2017 and last Sunday apart form the defeats the thing they all had in common was Kerry playing with Fear.
This is not arrogance however it's about bloody time we stopped playing with Fear and go out and express ourselves and inflict a bit of fear on ther opposition.
