Monaghan V Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Yesterday is gone and today is a new day.
6 days to turn things around or will we end up like the Tipp hurlers and not recover after a opening day defeat.
I believe we will see a reaction from these lads next Sunday.
We need a better balance of youth and experience against the experience of the Wyles etc of Monaghan.
Donaghy to start next week in FF with O'Donoghue to drop to the bench or out to the 40.
I'll travel and support the lads anyway, its now these young lads need it

100% westkerry , it's now more than ever that we need to get behind the team and il be there come what may.

We have a lot of improving to do on the pitch and I don't know if 6 days will be enough to do it in fairness but hopefully Monaghan might be tired after playing 6 games in 6 weeks and if we can stay close to them then here's hoping we might pip it at the end.

Not sure if it were better for us had Kerry won yesterday. There will be a backlash now and it should make for a cracking game. The league (yes the league) match in Inniskeen will stand the young Kerry lads but I would expect changes. Hope the Kerry supporters travel in numbers to add to a unique occasion.

Yeah I'll be up there too and hope to Christ a lot of Kerry folk will make the journey even though it's a very long one and the 4pm throw in does us no favours anyway.

Think JOD getting a lot of unfair slack plenty others played worse.

Shameful support by Kerry yesterday. Cork rightfully slagged off for our lack of support for our footballers but look at our hurler's following at ....ALL games ....,! Was in a very busy pub in Tralee last night...1 Kerry jersey ...he was at the game and said he felt like the kid in "Home Alone".....so bad was the Kerry support ! Met a fellow in Tralee Saturday morning, moaned he had a stand ticket but wasn't travelling cause the train was full ! September supporters!

Yes for such a successful and football mad county their support must be amongst the worst in the country. They do love to stick the boot into Cork but good point about the hurlers. Cork bring tens of thousands to Hurling games. The only issue facing Cork imo is how to keep interest in football and hurling when another is being successful. Kerry don't have this excuse, they are just a very badly supported county.

We have about 500 hardcore fans that go to all league and championship games, it's an expensive hobby it costs me and my family between 2,500 and 3,000 Euro a year between club and county, Me and my family are blessed as we're not badly off but other people might not have the cash simple as that.

It doesn't help when you have the cccc making fixtures that are more difficult, in fairness Galway v Kerry should have been in limerick yesterday, last week our junior team had to play Kildare in Meath in the allireland junior semifinal.

Absolutely massive game for both teams for different reasons. For Monaghan it is there greatest chance to get to an all Ireland semi-final in the last thirty years, however if they do lose it is not a complete disaster as they would still have a chance to get to a semi-final, which could be a rematch against Tyrone if things fall that way! For Kerry it is do or die stuff. Things could not have gone worse for them yesterday, a rainy day in a dead Croke Park and they put in there worst performance there since Meath in 2001. At no stage in the game did they play well, and there experienced men on the field did not perform at all namely Paul Geaney, David Moran, Peter Crowley and Paul Murphy. David Clifford made use of what little ball he did get and O'Donoghue was not as bad as previous games, which why it was a surprise he was taken off. The knifes are well and truly out for Fitzmaurice and he can have no complaints either along with his back room team, as they have been stuttering along for the last three years with a good performance against Dublin in the semi-final in 2016 all they have to show for it. Tactically they seem very poor especially when it comes to defending as they don't know how to use a spare man which was illustrated last year against Mayo and again yesterday. They are great at playing champagne football against Division 2 sides like Clare and Cork on a dry day, but in arm wrestle like yesterday they never looked like winning at all. There workrate and intensity around the middle eight was non existent as regularly we seen Galway players out numbering Kerry players for breaking ball. Credit must go to Galway who I thought were very good in poor conditions. There kickouts were bang on the money nearly every time and they defended extremely well by being aggressive and organized and most importantly they broke out at pace. When they got to the middle third they played nice passes into Burke and Comer when it was on and when it wasn't they recycled it around and waited for the runners like Walsh and Brannigan coming from deep. Kerry just continued to try play there own game plan when It was not working for them.

Every county have the same challenges, it would be great to see one of our most successful counties bring colour and noise to their games. Imagine if Kerry had the same type of support and colour as the Cork Hurlers. Kerry games always tend to be played in half empty stadiums if the game is in Limerick or Dublin, it doesn't seem to matter, just very badly supported.

For over 100 years Kerry have had to win 1 game of any consequence (and often not even that) to reach AI semis.

Times have changed lads so get your asses up to Clones ......this might be it for your county...maybe not...anyway you will add to what should be a fabulous atmosphere ....safe journey & Up the Farney !

This is a very interesting game.

I think that if you look at years gone by, Kerry always take a 2nd chance with both hands. They are a team who won the all Ireland this way in 2007 and 2009. If this were the quarter finals, obviously we wouldn't see how they could bounce back. If this is anything to go by I would expect them to up their game a huge amount in Clones.

The only thing is that having read and spoken to some Kerry people over the past day, morale is really low among them and this is not being a "cute hour". They really see no way back this year for a young Kerry team based on how flat they were yesterday. The players that came on did nothing.

Monaghan are in a great position to get to the semis, but I am not sure that this is the game that is going to get them there. I feel that they are going to be subject to a bit of a back lash from Kerry. However, Monaghan have an exceptionally good record over the past 10 years in clones both in the league and in the championship. They are also playing well and have got a really valuable result yesterday which will lift morale no end. I think it is Kerry's first experience of playing a match in ulster in the championship so it will be really interesting for this reason as well as what is at stake for them to see how they do.

I feel that Monaghan may also have peaked earlier in the year and could get found out, but this is just my opinion.

I really cant call this game at all and will be glued to it.

Fair point re a family annual expense.....but you have more than 500 supporter's , in massive figure's, who are not all "well off" who go to Manchester, Liverpool, London etc every other winter week-end for sporting reasons and also "support" their GAA ........Kerry are football September supporters.....err... and Killarney every second year. Expensive hobby me ars...

Monaghan will beat Kerry by 4-6 points and it will be Fitzmaurice's last game in charge of the Kingdom.

Well I said we have about 500 hardcore supporters that go to nearly all the intercounty games , of course we have more supporters than that as everyone in the county has interest in football at some level.

You say we are September supporters and you're correct you'll get no argument from me on that.

Of course there's going to be a "backlash " from Kerry on Sunday but in my humble opinion that still won't be enough. Monaghan are very tough team to beat and they have a home game to get themselves into an all Ireland semi-final. If Kerry manage to win this game then they will certainly deserve it because nothing will come easy for them!

An incredibly important game for both sides. Weather predictions are good so Clones should be buzzing.
Monaghan have beaten Kerry in 3 out of their 4 most recent league encounters but have yet to get the better of them in the championship.
It's been 10 years since our last championship meeting.
Recently this Monaghan team have gotten a few monkeys off their backs, so let's hope on Sunday we will cast off another demon.
Honn the Farney!

There's several claiming the downfall of Kerry. Never clever.

Regardless of what route got both teams to this stage, Kerry remain the All Ireland series benchmark. Beat them and you deserve the plaudits. Lose, and you join the countless legions of County panels across the length & breadth of the nation down the decades saying "what if ?"

I'm still pinching myself that we have a format enabling inter provincial championship clashes outside of HQ,let alone one that delivers this particular pairing.

If results go our way this weekend, Monaghan could reach an AI semi final. But with our efforts of 85 & 07 especially in mind, to beat Kerry in so doing would mean even more - a signature result this panel would wear like a tattoo.

Heady days these.
