After Austin Gleeson pulled the helmet off Bonner Maher why was he not given his marching orders it is after all a red card offense? It's not like he doesn't have form for such adangerous action. This incident was never commented upon. It seemed to have been overlooked due to other incidents. Coopers_Helmet (Tipperary) - Posts: 154 - 05/06/2018 12:12:25 2107639 Link 3 |
Maybe the umpire didn't have the best view of it.

When he ran from the line after conceding the Ghost Goal he got a hurl right into the back! Your not wondering why this straight red incident wasn't mentioned either? Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 05/06/2018 13:53:21 2107686 Link 2 |
Maher should have get six month's for trying to get a player sent off by pulling his own helmet off. This was also the opinion of Tipp reporters in the press box. There is no room in our game for this behaviour. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2665 - 05/06/2018 14:02:14 2107692 Link 1 |

It should have been a yellow card. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 05/06/2018 15:12:25 2107729 Link 0 |
You saying the Gleeson didn't touch his helmet???? Cmon no doubt Bonnar made a meal if it but Gleeson still had his hand around the face guard ..........he should have learned the lesson last year but didn't as he was allowed off scot free.......for me he is the most over rated hurler in the country, good hurler yes but nowhere near the level some media people try make him out to be......

The Austin Gleeson lynch mob are out again. There is photo in the independent today rightly showing Gleeson with his hand by Maher's helmet no pulling action. A shot in time. What is does not show is the next frame where Maher pulls his own helmet off. In a live radio commentary the presenter stated that Bonner Maher has just ripped his helmet off trying to get Gleeson sent off. Went on to say there is no place in the game for this carry on. In fairness again to Tipp people they are taking this for what it was and saying nothing. However if he did do this review it and suspend him. We will find someone else to step in against Limerick. While reviewing it review the score and award the match to the proper winner. No you are not interest in fair play just bias against Gleeson. Then you go to cast dispersion on his status in the game. He is 23 years old. Has an All-Ireland minor and under 21 medal. Stared in both campaigns . Young hurler of the year and an All-star. Did the media do all this ? Hard one to call I'm sure if there was something in it CCCC would have become involved now. I actually don't think Bonnar was trying to get him sent off either and I had a pretty good view where I was sitting. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 05/06/2018 19:13:00 2107819 Link 0 |
When has that ever been a problem?

Too right Yew-tree, and I imagine the first question that would be asked is "why is that footballer wearing a helmet?"

I figured someone would pick up on it eventually ;)

Waterford could create a meltodwn of their own if they wanted over the gleeson goal incident. But they didnt and a bit of mature sportsmanship prevailed.

I would say that Derek McGrath and Pauric Mahony in public were thinking of the next two games and in hope that they get a fair shake in them. I bet privately they would say the officiating crew screwed them over. Can you image Davy Fitz or Brian Cody's reaction if this happened to them. It will be said if Wateford lose the next match or two that it made no difference. However it will make a difference to another team. Guess who that will be ? One of the lesser lights Clare or Limerick. Eamon Sweeney had a excellent piece in the paper today about who gets the breaks when it comes to ref and umpire decisions. The Tipp's Kilkenny's Kerry's are never on the wrong side of them.

What's your point ? The person has enough integrity not blame someone in the wrong and has demonstrated impartiality on every occasion.
