Incredible decision For Tipp's 2nd goal

Don't understand how the umpires could have gotten that so wrong.

Some comeback from Tipp, Incredible, but such a huge decision went against Waterford there.

Umpires in this instance are a joke.

And now to top it off, The same bloody umpire waves a tipp point wide only for the ref to over rule him....

Stinker.

That decision would make a great Specsavers advert.

Terrible decision but bad calls are made by officials in every sport worldwide.

If the umpire isn't 100% sure then he should stay out of it.

The tipp players don't even appeal for a goal.

How do you become an umpire? Do they have training and have to pass tests?

It always concerns me when you see an old fellow (no offence intended, I'm one myself) by the post. Surely as eyesight is the most important criteria to do the job (that and knowing the rules). It should be a young man's job, someone in there 20's or 30's. That said, mistakes will always be made.

Of course it can be explained, the big decisions ALWAYS go against the underdog, it has happened since referees blew a whistle and will continue to happen until perhaps accessors reports are published and even then ranks will probably remain closed.

Stinking. He could over rule him on a point but took no action on the goal.

Yeah shocking decision and for me the ref kept Tipp in it the 2nd half with some very soft frees even the free at the end I thought wasn't a free.

The ref couldn't have seen it from where he was.. If there is any doubt between the two umpires it shouldn't have been given in my view.

In fairness to the referee he had a good view of the point but could not have known if the ball was over the goal line or not before Gleeson caught it the second time.
It was a very bad call by the umpire.

Every team at some point benefits from a dodgy ref decision. It's part of the game. But there's something about a score being incorrectly given or not given that I find especially galling.

Some come back by Tipp, there's no doubt about that, but they simply didn't deserve that draw. I'd be raging if I was from Waterford.

It wasn't called by the umpire nearest the ball it was the guy on the far side, mad call a huge bearing on the munster championship - incredible. Some dodgy wides/points called throughout but hard to take this result.

I was just about to make that point, it would have been a good point but probably waved wide.
Why did the umpire at the far post make this call?

You've answered you're own question.
They'd have won except for the decision.

Terrible decision for the Tipp goal, terrible referee and umpires who were worse if possible.

Ronan Maher's shot looked good unlike Tommy Ryan score at the other end.

Decision could have huge ramifications. Tipp were out of the All Ireland race but thIs call could change their entire season.
Likewise poor Waterford everything was stacked against them, having to play their home games on neutral grounds & a very bad run of injuries & now this.
If they lose next week away to a very good Limerick team they are out. Had they got the 2 points today a last game win over Cork might have put them through regardless of Limerick result.
The amount of training & effort that lads put in & maybe their entire season ruined by a very poor call.
He had to be certain to give it and he couldn't possibly have been because he was wrong.
As a hurling enthusiast I feel gutted, we have had a series of absolutely wonderful games in Munster but the season could well be remembered by this decision.
