Kerry 2018

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The optimism in Kerry is based around 4 minors in a row.

But for me in football, due to the pyshical nature of the game, winning U21 (U20) All-Irelands is a better benchmark and more important.

Dublin have a poor record at Minor even in recent years yet do well at 21 (U20) and from there it filters to the senior;

Will be interesting to see

I don't actually think there is that much optimism in Kerry itself for this year, a lot of the hype around Clifford and others is coming from outside the county. There are very few people in kerry talking up our chances of Sam 2018, and if they are it's in hope rather than expectation.

U21 is definitely a better barometer for future success if you look at great teams of the past. I think the change in format will work against Kerry at U20 as they'll be without Clifford and O'Shea this year and they also missed a year due to the change of grade. Does it really matter though if you bring say 10-12 quality players through to senior across the four teams over the next couple of years? I would suggest not, it's all about how many you can develop for the senior team and there 4-5 already looking like they are good enough. Time will tell.

Not overly optimistic of an all ireland for Kerry this year.
The best lads that are coming through are in the forwards.
But we don't really have a Paul Galvin/Paul Flynn type which I think is a necessity for us.

But it is the backline and lack of real pace in midfield which is our main problem. Eamon Fitz to me has never figured this out

I still think in a one off game we might be able to beat Dublin ( a big if but likely could be beaten well too).

This year there are Galway /Monaghan that can give a good rattle to Dublin and I would associate Kerry and Mayo to both these teams rather than getting closer to Dublin.

It is still to be seen how much of a loss Connolly is to Dublin as he had that bit of magic even if not playing well.

Woops, I remember watching a young lad winning the minor and an all ireland with St Brendans called Dara Moynihan, a very direct half forward with an eye for a pass. Has he progressed at all down there because I remember being very impressed by him?

Dara Moynihan was injured for the majority of last year, but I think he's back for the U20s now, he's a savage bit of stuff if he can stay fit.

I agree with you, plus Marc and Darragh both reckon we're a few years away from challenging at the top, I'd be more inclined to believe Marc and Darragh my self.

Lots of ifs and maybes in Tomás's article and doesn't seem to have any basis for his opening statement when you read down through it. A young kerry team got gutted by Dublin in the league so much improvement needed if he is to be proven right.

He tips both Dublin and Kerry in the space of two sentences. I can't make sense of it.

Ya I saw that, I suppose he has to try and make us think there is more than one horse in this race.

Thank god for the hurling at least that is still pretty unpredictable.

I'm not playing down Kerry I'm saying dubs are well ahead of everyone else, and IMO it's a one horse race.

Replying To clondalkindub:  "Why is no one talking about Kerry for Sam this year , I know their defense has questions but from midfield up their frightening;

Jack Barry David Moran

Micheal Burns Sean O Se Donacha Walsh

David Clifford Paul Geaney James O Donoghue

Not to mention

Donaghy
Daithi Casey
Darren O Sullivan
Micheal Geaney
Anthony Maher
Jack Savage
Barry John Keane

Genuinely that's a better forward line than Dublin's right now , why is nobody talking Kerry up? If posters think a Dublin half forward line of Scully and Howard would be as strong as Flynn and Connolly in their pomp their having a laugh, Kerry for me with that attacking strength should be nearly favorites this year and I'm not on the wind up even when we were at our peak we couldn't hammer an average Kerry team now look at the forwards they have now and with the young defenders coming in like Foley White etc their going to be extremely hard to beat, my only hope is it's a year or two too early for their younger players."
22 minutes gone and everything I said a month ago is bang on the money.

Kerry have to be All Ireland favorites they are lethal folks. It's a joy to watch them up front and it's also frightening.

Everyone else's only slim hope is their defense can be got at. When they get good it's going to be Kerry's time again.
