Kerry V Clare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There's been little talk about Kerry heading into their championship opener. The Kingdom could have up to six or seven championship debutants on Sunday. Sean O'Shea, Micheal Burns, David Clifford, Jason Foley, Shane Murphy, Gavin Crowley and Ronan Shanahan (I'm sure the latter two haven't played championship before). Experienced players like Shane Enright, Anthony Maher and Kieran Donaghy aren't expected to feature. James O'Donoghue is rated doubtful with injury and Johnny Buckley is no longer part of the panel. So all in all, Eamonn Fitzmaurice is expected to field a new team. Have Clare a chance of causing an upset in Killarney?

Well Enright is injured and Walsh and Casey are also out this week, other than that Fitzmaurice reported a clean bill of health to the Times this morning and that included JOD!

Kerry's season will be defined by how well our young players can cope in the white heat of the Championship. If things click right and they bring some much needed pace and energy into the team, then I expect us to have a big say in where Sam goes.
However it is an awful lot of young lads with little or no Championship experience to be thrown in together at the deep end. So I suppose the smart money would be on us making the Super 8's and anything after being a bonus.
But we live in hope!!!

As for Sunday, Clare are a very decent team and they have proven that consistently over the past 3 years. One of the best midfields in the country and some very decent forwards. Given that, and the inexperience in the Kerry panel, I'd expect them to give us our fill of it for a good 50 or 60 minutes.
But I'm confident Kerry have enough talent and firepower to pull away towards the end and set up the first Cork v Kerry showdown in the new PUC.
Great to finally have a Kerry game to look forward to after two months.
An Riocht, as ever, Abu!!!

It will be interesting to see how Kerry look.
They will as usual get a tough game from Clare but i suspect in the second half we should win by 5/6 with superior forwards being the difference.
It will be interesting to see how our fragile middle centre gets on

You would swear Kerry were throwing the towel in already. This is a game they should win with half a team.

What kind of crowd are people expecting? 8,000/10,000?

Ah bit more than that, if the sun is shinning. People will be curious to see the young talent in the side and what they csn do, I'd say 15,000 or more

Waste of time

Munster football is as dead as Leinster.

Kerry will walk to yet another Munster title

Did you see what Cork did to Tipp? And now potentially facing Kerry for the first time in their brand new, shinning white elephant on a Saturday night, that game has the potential to be a cracker!

Munster football is in a very good place, all you need to do is look at the League.
If Clare or Tipp were in Leinster they'd be playing ye in the provincial final for each of the last 4-5 years

Yeah great stuff but Kerry will still be champions and no matter what you say we both know it's true.

Probably. No reason a rejuvenated Cork can't topple Kerry in PUC though. We needed a last gasp point in Killarney to bring them to a replay as recently as 2015. They have the footballers to be a very good team if they get everything in order on and off the field.

Exactly, Cork have been at their lowest ebb since I'm alive in the past four years but they are signs they are coming out of the slump.
Even as bad as they have been, as Gerry said they should have beat us in the drawn final in 2015 and they should have dumped Mayo out of the Championship last summer.
When's the last time, aside from Dublin, a Leinster county did anything similar?
As I said, Leinster is so poor, Tipp and Clare would stroll to Leinster finals these days never mind Cork!

White Elephant? Probably have more games then fitzgerald stadium, did you ever hear of a sport thats called hurling that do be played there, so far this year 3 ed sheeran concerts a few league games, 2 hurling championship games, and munster football final (assuming kerry beat clare) and a if luck goes our way super 8 game there

That's hardly true considering neither Tipperary or Clare made it to division one. That's like saying if Dublin were in Munster Kerry wouldn't have any Munsters in the last 4-5 years.

Other than that it's quiet enough though!
