Replying To kildare73:  "Firstly I never said it was earth shattering, it was actually poor, but at least the paying supporters saw a game of football. Might be no harm to read more than one post mate. If you want to call that game today entertaining then be my guest."
I was only putting your point of Kildare scoring (two points) more in losing than Fermanagh did when winning in perspective.
Kildare's 1-10 was against a 4th division team whereas Division 3 Fermanagh's total was against Monaghan who came 3rd in Division 1 ... a better achievement one might think .
Yes I read all the posts on this fixture (just happened to reply to your's ) and no one is daring call today's game entertaining .. mate!

What an interesting match today. Two of the best tacticians in football. Really have never seen O'Rourke out-thought to the degree he was today. Gallagher is a genius.

Some saying the game wasn't entertaining. I enjoyed it. Sure, there weren't tonnes of scores but it was absolutely fascinating I thought.

Also, Fermanagh's win today was akin to if Clare had beaten Kerry. That's the gulf in standard and league position between the two. Football is a game of problem solving, how to defeat the team in front of you. Gallagher's ability to do so is genius. Armagh aren't great and McGeeney is a very poor manager, so you can't read much into Fermanagh's defeat of them. But to set up in such a way today to beat Monaghan and Malachy O'Rourke takes some doing. And having had the balls to leave their best player Seamus Quigley on the line all day. Brilliant manager.

Down or Donegal in the Ulster final. Fermanagh will take some beating.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Oh have faith. This Is the man who mdm said was best manager he ever played under, also took the 4/5 ranked club in county to not only co success but Leinster and all ire too"
Of course I have faith but to compare club fare, where literally it is very easy to 'introduce outsiders' and county fare where you rely on 'your own'.

What I was referring to was that Rory Gallagher was part of the Donegal set up that perfected the blanket defence and knows exactly where to position his defenders. To be honest I am not at all convinced that our management team have the same understanding of where and who to position around the 'D'.

My hope is based on Meath varying their approach during the game, not unlike Fermanagh at the finish today when they used the long ball to devastating effect. So obviously Rory had a plan B and possibly C to boot. I just hope a bit of flair and intuition are part of our plan.

Lads and ladies. I've been drinking and celebrating all day. All I want to say is poor Old Fermanagh, half the county is Protestant and the other half of the county is under water have just beaten the third best side in Ireland. What a day!!!!
I see a lot of posters giving out about the quality of football. To those of you criticising the game. I couldn't give a fiddlers **** what you think. Fermanagh beat monaghan and that's all that matters. If they managed to win by a point to score today I wouldn't care and I would do the same on the 24th of June.
I've had a few pints at this stage but who cares. What a day to be a fermanagh man. Who knows we might even win the ulster final. Fermanagh for Sam!!!!!!

Defending your teams tactics to gain a result is one thing but trying to call that game entertaining is another. It was horrible! Bring back Tyrone, all is forgiven!

As for Monaghan, I said it before, they are a slightly above average team and that is it. Its not like Fermanagh reinvented the wheel or anything. They did exactly what everyone expected them to do and a full strength Monaghan team couldn't live with them.

Congrats Fermanagh...would love to see them win the Ulster title. Awful game to watch but Fermanagh fans won't care.

Did Monaghan believe the hype? There was talk about them challenging for Sam but as we all know the league and championship are worlds apart

I gather you didn't see my post. :). Btw. A win is a win. I won't care how Meath win on Saturday should they win.

You going for the cure!? Well done a great victory.

Fermanagh have been a profitable punt for me so I'll have to go for them again in the final!

Firstly massive congrats to Fermanagh a fantastic win and yes everybody knew how they would set up but the players have to buy into this get themselves organised which they were brillant at, Rory and his team hats off.
Monaghan seem to have a problem getting themselves up for games against teams everybody says they will win i.e. Down last year and now Fermanagh there was no intensey to there play yesterday players walking around the pitch i could not believe what i was watching, remember Carlow last year they just about won the game they would be the team you want to play next there v vulnerable now mentally.

Just saw this- since the start of the 21st century, Monaghan have hugely suffered with complacency after a good performance in a previous game/season. In addition, tag of being favorites also has seen them greatly struggle. In other words, they have been flat and succumbed to the pressure of favoritism.

2001-Beat Fermanagh lose to Cavan
2003-Beat Armagh lose to Down
2005-Win NFL-lose to Derry
2006-Lose to Wexford
2008-Lose to Fermanagh after a great run in 2007
2010-Lose Ulster Final after impressive run to final
2012-Hot favorites against Down-blow a huge lead
2013-Win Ulster-Beaten by Tyrone
2014-Beat Tyrone-Draw wit Armagh
2015-Same as 2013
2016- Longford beat them
2017- Beat Cavan-Lose to Down
2018-Beat Tyrone-Lose to Fermanagh

You could also throw in the no-shows they have had in the midlands in the Qualifiers.

Replying To mon07:  "If it was Tyrone playing Fermanagh it would be all about how could Fermanagh contain them to keep the score respectable. But it is Monaghan playing them. The only team to beat Tyrone in ulster in 3 seasons and the only team to beat Dublin since Kerry in the league final. So where does everyone get the idea that this will be a tight game. We are a different animal this year with a serious bench. Last year has been left well behind this team. Monaghan by 8 or 9."
I doubt if much has changed from last year. A number of our players still believe in the hype that's written about them. Also remember Mickie Harte put on 4 injured players against monaghan last day out. He's been castigated in the Media for it and rightly so and I have watched that match a few times and there wasn't that much in it. Certainly not enough for our time to arrive in Omagh yesterday thinking that they had only to show up. Gallagher and Mc Mennanim are a lethal pairing and nobody gave that fact a tiny spec of respect.

Well done Fermanagh and if you're from Fermanagh you couldn't give a monkeys what style of football they played.

I expect Donegal to beat Down and unless Donegal change their tactics I think Fermanagh have a great chance of winning the Ulster Final.

Ulster football..

That's the style of football that has made the province weaker and made talented players walk away from representing their county. It stifles individual skill and puts off talent. Why would you commit so much of your younger years to play a rotten version of the sport. That is why many are walking away. If you were born with a natural flare and a gift of individual talent.. then that version of football is not for you.

It's no doubt weakening Ulster and players are becoming disillusioned.

It was an appalling example of the game of football and really portrays the Ulster championship in a very poor state of affairs.

I won't say well done Fermanagh as to do so is complimenting that muck and I hope Dublin get a chance to absolutely dismantle that standard of Ulster rubbish just like last year.

Seems then you missed my point. I'd sooner watch a game with 3-24 scored in it and a bit of football played. I don't particularly care who is involved in it. We'll just have to agree to disagree but at least we are ..........mates:)

I don't think monaghan were complacent...havnt heard anyone mention this yet but for anyone who was in Healy park yesterday for the game would of witnessed the energy sapping heat...i think in hindsight that played into fermanagh hands, it's tough conditions to play in and monaghan just couldn't find the energy at any point to go 3 4 or 5 points ahead...it took a bit of fortouis goal in the end but fermanagh were leading for a good 70% of the game anyway so it was a greatly deserved win.

Jimbo i couldn't give a **** what you think about yesterdays game. As a Fermanagh man i'm sick to my teeth of moral victories and patronising pats on the head. If Fermanagh go out and beat the winners of Donegal v Down 0-01 - 0-00 you wont see a happier man than me. I don't care that you think it was an appalling example of a game of football, I don't care that you think it portrayed the ulster championship in a poor manner, I don't care that you think the best players are walking away. All I care about is Fermanagh playing in an ulster final on the 24th of June. All I care about is Fermanagh hopefully winning that Ulster Final on the 24th of June. Not everyone is Dublin, Fermanagh are playing to their strengths and you know what, I don't care that it's awful to watch.

watching the game yesterday its obvious players are being instructed not to shoot at times, second half in particular there were a few Fermanagh players in very scoreable positions who opted for the pass when I thought the should have shot. Too much emphasis but on stats , scoring zones and getting the ball to your scoring forwards. Players at this level should have no issues kicking the ball over the bar from 35 years out. For Monaghan it took Drew Wylie coming up the field to show the forwards what they needed to do.
