London/New York Double

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think these 2 counties can pull off 2 shocks this weekend with London playing Sligo and New York up against Leitrim, both teams have been improving this last few years and will fancy there chances. I know there is always a turnover off players every year but both counties have strong squads and being at home I'm going for 2 home wins.
Could be a very nervous day for Sligo and Leitrim management and supporters.

New York certainly might be worth a bet, hard to gauge where they are at but they do have a few quality additions this year. I think London may struggle but they are good odds and wouldn't be surprised to see them win.

Shame that rte dont ever show these games, no idea why as would be interesting viewing.

Hardly a shock considering the massive population advantage they have ;) surely time to split New York

Seen a few of London's games this year. The biggest problem they have is they run out of steam. Lots of games they have led at half time , just don't seen to be able to sustain the momentum over 70/75 minutes.
I'd fancy Sligo by more than 4 points.
NY I definitely fancy to cause an upset. They scored 1-20 against Corofin who granted were not a full strength or full throttle.
Jamie Clarke probably worth 5 points to them
But when last did Leitrim score 1-20 against any opposition?
NY by a point or 2.

Leitrims backline is like the red sea when ran at, it parts down the middle. Midfield slow and rarely take control of games. 3 decent forwards though. Rooney the one to watch. Leitrim have a man picked to mark Jamie Clarke, whether he can or not remains to be seen. Unless NY are brutal they are in with a shout. WInner gets to play Roscommon and get beaten by 35 points.

What is this about saying Leitrim will lose?
With all the problems Leitrim have had over the years they have never lost to New York.
can't see why the betting is so close.
Leitrim to come though ..as pride should be able to get them into the next round.

As for London..think Sligo will win 5/6 points

Leitrim this year scored 2-18 (24) v Limerick and 2-15 (21) v Wicklow that is more impressive scoring than 1-20 against a half strength club side in a challenge game that flew over on the day of the game!

We beat New York by one point in our last meeting and i highly doubt Leitrim are going to allow themselves to get hammered in that manner in Carrick on Shannon. Plus our Junior result last night proved once again we are capable giving underdogs great hope.

Underdogs who you rarely beat, mind you.

Sligo and Leitrim to win through for me. Too much talk about the exiles causing upsets which will focus the minds of the Sligo and Leitrim camps.

Sligo will win well.
Leitrim will have it tougher,if it's tight in the Last few minutes the ref will help them home like he did with us over there. Hopefully Leitrim win.

Just a heads up to anyone heading to the match - the 1 train line (the line that goes by Gaelic Park) is having construction done this weekend, so you can't take that subway to the match. The train goes as far as 137th Street, but no further north.
I'm planning on taking the 4 train as far as Mosholu Park, which is about a mile east of Gaelic Park, and either walking or getting an Uber from there.
Maybe plan on leaving a bit earlier than normal if you're planning on heading to the match.

We have beaten Mayo plenty of times at Junior level, this year however Mayo were big underdogs to win that Junior game.

Your penchant for fielding senior county footballers at junior probably has something to do with that. Didn't work this time, though...

Different rules on who Roscommon,Sligo,Leitrim can select at Junior level compared to Galway and Mayo. The last 6 years it didn't work out for us either as we didn't take part in the Junior championship.

Good luck to Leitrim in NY this weekend!! Its more than just a match, its a chance for Leitrim people to meet their cousins as most houses in the county have cousins or relations in NY. Also a chance for Irish in NY to get together regardless of what county they are from.
There'll be a few had in Clarkes and Dolans around McLean Ave. if Leitrim pull off the escape!!! I see on Facebook the antics have started before the game as well!

It's a great weekend for all the Irish in NY and the visiting fans. I look forward to heading over next year with Mayo.

Anyone who says These games should be scraped doesn't know what they are talking about.
