Galway Vs Dublin League Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The way Galway set up I'd say it'll be a bit closer.
Dublin to win still but I'd say by 3.

You are dead right, league final is a waste of time, the table toppers should be the winners.

Not too bothered about the result as long as we are competitive. We were in Salthill against them last week but Croke Park is different.

I think it's great that we get a crack at the all Ireland champs in Croke park. We need our weaknesses highlighted sooner rather than later but have to agree that whoever tops the table should be league champs

Fully expect us to put Galway back into their place and remind them that it'll take a hell of a lot more than an impressive league campaign. Dublin pacing themselves, even after this game it's all about the super 8s cause Leinster is just about turning up and taking care of that without picking up injuries, the sole focus is on 4 in a row. This Dublin team don't lose many games and they certainly won't lose 2 in a week"
Dead right. I don't even know why we're bothering to even show up. Dublin by 40. At least.

Dublin to win by 6 or 7. We have played an almost full strength team the whole campaign. The defensive system will have to be tweaked in a big way for us to progress further. Dublin are not unbeatable for sure but it will take a great performance to beat them. We are top six at best at the moment.

A league final is probably a waste of time for the top teams but for ourselves and Cavan it's all about getting experience in croke park and winning in croke park..I think for Galway this will be the game where they find out how good they really are..I hope they stick with them and its a good game.

Galway back in their place? What exactly is their place?

Also, did you just say "it will take a hell of a lot more than an impressive league campaign" to win the league? Ahmmmm

Agreed. I think it will be tight but Dublin to eek out a win by a point or two

- ehhhh no we haven't! Galway Vs Dub 2 weeks ago was two very experimental sides, as was the Galway outfit Vs Kildare yesterday, we finally have some depth in our panel.

- also Corofin lads to come back after the league

not convinced this Galway team are the real deal"
Out of curiosity, what would it take of rthis Galway team to prove themselves? They have made consistent annual progress under Kevin Walsh in:
- Stopping Mayo's dominance in Connacht / winning a Connacht title
- Making Galway a competitive team
- Getting Galway one step further in the Championship with every year in charge
- Adding depth to the panel / integrating younger players while implementing a defensive system
- Gaining promotion
- Making a Div 1 league final

Game far from a waste of time for Galway. Every game against top quality opposition will improve us. This is much better than a challenge game a head of May 13th.

As for game itself. I don't think anyone in Galway, bar a few dreamers, think we are on Dublins level. But bar maybe a full strength Kerry we are as close to them as any other team. It will be interesting to see how Galways set up is suited or not by the size of the Croke park pitch. Obviously lots of space for our pacey players to break into. However Dublin don't lack athleticism either. I have no issue with the Galway system but do agree we need to be more than a one trick pony and need to be able to press at stages in a game. Hopefully KW is practicing this in training to unveil it against Mayo!

Will any of the Corofin players start. Would love to see Ian Burke put straight in. He's a class act.

Can Galway win......yes but they will need to start taking their goal chances. In every game we have played this year we have made numerous goal chances but are missing a lot. Even against Dublin the last day we had 3 one on ones, all missed. To beat a team that are a head of you you need to be clinical on a given day.

I think Dublin will win, but Galway will make a game of it.

As for the Mayo lad saying Galway to be put back in their place by Dublin......are you for real buck. Even if we lose by 9 points it is nothing that Dublin haven't done to most teams. If you want to put us back in our box............ see you May 13th!!

I just hope its a better game of ball then salthill a couple of weeks ago, none of that, time wasting, starting melees, "or putting down markers" yawnfests.

I think Dublin will have the right game plan for Galway after feeling them out the last day.

I wonder will King Con make a special guest appearance?

Dublin will win relatively handy if they start Cluxton in particular and the rest of their first team. Cian O Sullivan is a massive loss. One thing this league campaign has done in my eyes is to show that Dublin minus their top players are not that far ahead i.e their depth is not as good as people thought. However, if they bring back in Cluxton, Connnolly, McManamon etc then they will have too much for us at our stage of development. We will use this game as another opportunity to improve and to set down a marker that we are very hard to beat and are very dangerous for any team. Galway have made unreal progress under Kevin Walsh but we have a good bit to go before we break into Dublin's class. The aim for Galway this year is to stay in Division 1(achieved but mindful of what happened Derry since they reached the league final in 2014), beat Mayo, win Connacht, break into the top 2/3 outside of Dublin and hopefully make a semi final/final and make sure that any team who might beat us will have to work like absolute dogs until the last ball is kicked

Galway to win well & pulling up.

Dublin indiscipline will cost them again. Their run at the top is over now, the decline has began. A new order is coming.

These wide open spaces everyone is banging on about will be manna from heaven for the long range point kicking exhibition that Galway will provide. And when they do get close to us the likes of Comer he will tank straight through them, or the likes of Walsh and he will dance around them.

We finished unbeaten and top of the league. They should hand over the trophy to us now & save the Dubs a hiding a HQ. Plus it's lambing at home and we've plenty to be at.

Best of luck to Galway at HQ the next day.

It will be interesting to see if they persist with their counter-attacking style in the wide open confines of Croker.

As regards the match, I don't see there being much more than a few points in it either way, I'm leaning towards the Tribesmen to shade it the next day.

I am left with the question is this Galway team, in fact one of the greatest teams of all time. Something tremendously special seems to have been born this spring.

If i was Galway i would leave some in reserve for a tilt at Sam, this Galway team shouldn't be concerning themselves with the likes of the National League.

We had a good run at it to be fair to us.

Good response! Please note these are not the thoughts of the majority (even through we'd love it to be the case!)
