Meath are getting 1 round in I believe.

It's not common for the Northern counties to play championship before the end of the season anyway.

Even Donegal won't be starting until September. They normally would play some rounds of championship in and around county fixtures.

The April club month doesn't make any sense. Play a round or 2 right at the start of the season and then nothing until September. It's stupid, plus county squads don't want to release players before the Provincial championships.

It should ALWAYS have been the month of May for the clubs. Get your league out of the way. Get your preliminary provincial championship fixtures out of the way (ie. the teams that won't feature in the latter stages of the championship) in the months of March and April . LEAVE MAY TO THE CLUBS. Play the All Ireland's in September on their traditional dates and DONT hand the month of September over to rugby and soccer... (the most spectacular own goal ever!).

It is not rocket science but with the group think that goes on within the GAA, you would be forgiven for thinking that it is!

And leave the clubs to pack in about 10 rounds of fixtures in 2 months?

OK maybe I've over simplified the issue but I do think May is a better option for the shut down. Could get the intercounty preliminary/early round championship games out of the way in April and those not playing in them possibly could fit in some club games in that month as well and so make further progress with them. I really do think it is an awful mistake holding the All Ireland's in August at the peak of the holiday season and giving other sports a free run in September. Half the country is thinking of holidays at that time and getting people to mentally retune to the reality of August All Ireland's is not going to occur all that easily.

I think a league based system could work for the championship.

Club fixtures can be worked around county fixtures also, since any one game is of less consequence in a league based system.

You'd have 2 divisions of 16. Playing a 15 game single round robin in each division, moving on to playoffs.

Hurling would have 3 divisions of 12,12 and 11.

The regular season would start in April and run until August. 22 weeks, with 6 designated club weekends in that time and a potential catch up weekend.

September would be left for All Ireland playoffs. (6 in each football division, 4 in each hurling division.)

Club county championships would be completed in October.

Provincial and All Ireland club played in February and March.
